I can't figure it out

So I have another day where I go to the driving range and hit about 30-40 drives. While they weren't as long as I'd like them the majority were reasonably straight. I proceed from there to Thursday night men's league. Shotgun start and I'm playing with nice guys - no tension there.

 

My turn at the tee and I shank two in the water. Next hole, drive is a short worm burner, third hole and my drive goes ob. I go to hit a second ball it doesn't make it to the fairway and of course I can't get it out of the rough. Etc, etc, etc.

 

Don't know what's going on maybe I need psychiatric help? This just happens too much.

It happens. I'll hit 10 in a row dead straight on the range. Get to #2 where I need the Big Dog and I'll block the crap out of it into someone's back yard.

Try this... Shorter backswing where your left arm goes no further than parallel. Close your left eye and hit the ball.

I get the first tee jitters every now and then. Now I don't hit anything more than a hybrid on the range before teeing off. When I pull out the driver on the first tee, usually hit it well.

lead eye closed = staying 'behind' the ball and leading with your hands instead of the body

 

distance is 2nd to accuracy!

Range shots don't count so there's no pressure.  I might hit a few shots on the range before play just to loosen up, but like @djahubes, I don't need to hit driver.  Many times I just focus on short game warmup and do stretches.  Not a good idea to work on anything on the range before a round; just trust your swing and have fun playing.

The (one) thing that really helped this year is developing a powerful release that hits push draws.Got a great tip too turn my lead hand ccw from top of swing to finish.The right hand will turn slightly cw preventing left hand from completely closing the clubface.One can hit the most beautiful powerful push draws this way with very little effort.Very little speed needed, just let the techniques hit it for you.Nothing new or mind blowing.But only a one on one demonstration was only way I could get this.The proper swing path-backswing length- pivot can happen more naturally with a proper release.Im a real believer now

Mentally draw a line between you and your teed ball. Take 2 practice swings. Grip the club to swing. Walk past your line to hit the ball. You have 5 seconds to hit the ball. Don't think about anything but the count. Tour players use this

I don't know if you're able to but my pro suggested ending practice sessions by playing a couple of holes. As long as it's not crowded I do just that. I'll take my cart and find a hole with no one on it and play it. I've found it really helps when taking the game from the range.

No seriously this happens to me often truly there is a short par 5 on a course I play and I can be driving great all day but that hole I put it in the right side water every time all I need to do is pipe one easy one down the middle then likely home in 2 but can't do it
