SPY ZINGER
Decided to make a last minute voyage to Sand Valley this weekend. Sort of the last shot at the Spring rates. http://www.sandvalleygolfresort.com The resort is in the heart of Wisconsin and is run by the same group that manages Bandon Dunes. The first course just opened May 1, 2017, and is a Coore/Crenshaw design. A second will open for preview play this fall designed by David Kidd. The facility was designed on acres upon acres of rolling sand dunes. Going to give the Coore/Crenshaw a run tomorrow morning. Here are a few resort pics upon arrival. Much like Bandon, it's pure golf at the highest level. This is going to be a special place for years to come. Many have said as it matures, it'll be the public Pine Valley. The customer service and hospitality is unmatched. It's like Disney on steroids. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and appreciated. But ironically, they pull it off in a muted and understated tone. It's genuine, and who ever does the training is doing a remarkable job. PlaidJacket
Looks nice and green there. That's for sure. Although not my prefered style of golf course (as are Bandon's courses) I'd certainly play it if I were in the area. My golf buddies are wanting to return to Bandon one day soon if possible. I'd go too just because it's so unique and overall cool. Sand Valley looks much softer than Bandon. If you've ever been to Bandon then you know how it plays hard and fast. Bandon is much more of a ground game as anything I thought. SPY ZINGER
It's absolute golf paradise and today didn't disappoint. Extremely wide fairways and forgiving course. Difficult to lose a golf ball. If it isn't obvious, the sandy soil drains well and plays firm and fast. If you are looking for a caddie recommendation, ask for Dean Starr, caddied on Champions Tour and LPGA. Just a knowledgeable and friendly guy not to mention a professional caddie to boot. Must have: The ice cream sandwiches. 14 flavors and are just delicious. Here are some Pics from today. Golfspy_CG2
Looks phenomenal. What part of WI is that? If there was a MGS outing there, I'd certainly do what ever I could to make it. I used to travel to WI annually. Wish I still did. pbland
I live about 3 hours from Sand Valley and can't wait to go there. The pics above of the fairways look quite sandy. Has the fairway grass grown in fully? Or is the property just that sandy? Wisconsin has become a great golfing state. The top courses are pricey, but I've got to play Sand Valley and Whistling Straits.
SPY ZINGER
It's just that sandy. There is sand everywhere. Appropriately named, no doubt. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
