Preferred Putter Grips?

ZachSvec

Recommended Posts

I have switched to P2 grips, have them on all my putters now.

I was just about to ask if anyone has tried the P2 grips, they have the new blacked out Core Range that I am debating ordering one in to give it go. What differences have you noticed?

The Garsen grips have got a lot of hype, however the press grip from LAB is easily the best grip I have had on a putter. I am very curious to try the pistol grip they have as well.

Just curious as to what grips all of you rock on your putters as most of the guys i play with have some variation of the superstroke. Interested to see if you prefer something stock right off the rack or a variation of the superstroke (pistol, flatso, countercore, 1.0-5.0) or some of the Winn grip offerings. Especially curious to see if anyone has the flatcat grip that Justin Rose and some other tour pros have put into play recently. Let me know maybe what you prefer, what you like or what you don't like.

I have preferred the Gravity Grip ever since I got one installed on my Evnroll putter about 6 years ago, and I now have Gravity Grips on three of my putters. However, when I built a putter for myself using Maltby components about two years ago, I used a Garsen Quad Tour Proto grip in the build, and I also like that grip quite a lot and have not changed grips on that putter.

The grip on my original Evnroll putter has been changed twice since I got the putter (it’s on its third Gravity Grip now, and that one is due to be changed soon), and when I ordered a new Evnroll putter (very similar to the original, but with a slightly different hosel style), I made sure to order it with a Gravity Grip as well. I also put a Gravity Grip on my Makefield VS Mallet putter, hoping that it would add sufficient counterweight or counterbalance at the grip end, but it hasn’t helped much.  There are also always at least two spare Gravity Grips in the storage cabinet in my workshop, still in their wrappers.

The biggest advantage I find with the Gravity Grip, in addition to its shape, is that the 50 gram steel rod that runs the full length of the grip under the player’s hands adds a great amount of counterbalancing and stability to the putter.  If the Garsen grips had more weight, or the ability to add a counter weight in the butt, as many of the SuperStroke grips do, the Garsen Quad Tour grips would be just about perfect.

You could do the tour lock or balance certified weight approach.

Used to use superstores. Found was losing strokes and switched back to a Lamkin Deep Etched Pistol. Feel I have more speed control with a smaller grip on a mallet.

Lots of big dogs on tour using that PING grip on their putters whether it's a PING or not!!! There is one guy who is kinda good?? You may or may not have heard of him but he has a PING grip on a Scotty Cameron and always has. His name is Tiger Woods!! 🤣🤣 So I saw PING remade that grip and puts it as a stock option for the new PLD Putter line they have

Yeah that's the slim grip tho which isn't my favorite. I would say many use that because it's a classic vs some of the performance benefits which amateurs can gain by using newer grips with more tech.

Thanks!  I could do that. I have also created my own counterweighting system, using carriage bolts of different lengths and weights inserted into the butts of various grips. However, I am going to leave the Garsen grip(s) as-is.

Have you tried the press grip on non L.A.B putters?  Has anyone?  I’d love to see write up on that.  I’m curious on how it would perform data wise for me.

So I believe for the PLD line they have that grip in a small med and large.

No, can't say I have. I would definitely try it for an experiment. However I can say for sure that I will be hard pressed to move away from LAB putters.

I am kind a Scotty collector and I have been playing a Matador grip for awhile now but he makes a premium leather stichback that is really nice and I would use it but when it gets wet it's not good, so alas the all weather grip for me!!

I’ve gone back and forth between the garsen quad and garsen max.  I may try the garsen ultimate this year.  I’m a big fan of the whole garsen lineup.

I've been toying with trying the Garsen Quad Tour taper grip as a change from Superstroke. I'm a little torn between the Quad Tour size grip and going back to a more traditional slimmer grip like the Ping Blackout.
