TSauer
There are so many mechanics involved in a golf that sometimes you think about too many before you swing, or at least I catch myself doing it. Is my grip correct? Is my weight centered? Body square? Am I out of beer? There's a lot. Recently I've been trying to focus on rhythm and just making contact with the ball, so before I swing I just say "1....2...." while I make a practice swing. It helps me to swing through the ball to my finish position rather than stopping at the ball. What do you think of before you swing? ole gray
Oh shat! Where's that frigging ball going this time!! Seriously my main and only swing thought lately has been keeping my elbows close together. When I do this correctly it helps me use more of my body instead of flailing away with my arms only. I like the term, "keeping your arms in front of you" as my pre shot swing thought. I might kick in the thought of keeping my feet grounded /firmly planted as an anchor at times too. This helps me from sliding around with my bottom half. PlaidJacket
I read somewhere a few days ago about stepping into the Chamber. Basically it was discussing pre-shot routine through executing the shot. The thought is standing behind your ball sizing up your situation (your preshot routine) then stepping inside the Chamber (address) and hitting the shot. After you step into the chamber you execute the shot in 15 seconds or less. Less is always better IMO. After you step into the chamber you execute the shot in 15 seconds or less. Less is always better IMO. This is exactly what a local instructor was telling me a couple of months ago. Stand behind the ball, visualize your shot, take a practice swing, then step up to the ball and hit it. If you're standing over the ball for too long, things will go wrong. Rusty1885
I keep it simple. Most courses I play now beside my home course I know them well. I made a plan before round. No hero shots, 80% rule, take the medicine pitch out and keep it in play. I'm successful 90% of the time. The other 10% is what holding me back from being a better golfer My preshot routine is to size uop the shots, lies and club selection. Take one may be two exact swing and visualize the shot as I want it to go, usually the first one did the job, then 2 seconds clock start, I look at the target-then look at the hall-and let it go. No thinking. I found 2 seconds to be just enough time to get into the shot and not enough time to think about anything else and keeps me out of trouble from myself. It took me over 6 months to assimilate this to my game and it works 99% of the time. The only thing that will screw those up is when money is on the line. Apparently, I have weak stomach and needs to work on my nerves.

chisag
... Nothing. When I am swinging well it is easy to clear my mind and get into a semi zen state and just try and hit the ball where I am aiming with the kind of shot I want to hit. When swinging poorly I struggle to keep swing thoughts out of my consciousness. And while a thought might work for a swing or two, it always takes away from the goal. Hitting the shot I am trying to hit. The mental side of the game is what makes it so dammed difficult and so addicting at the same time. Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... revkev
I try to adhere to that 15 second rule as well. Shankster
Been thinking about this one more. My golf "me" has multiple personality disorder. Heck, maybe I do in general (I'll make an appointment). Sometimes I think "nice and easy" but then something turns me, like the Dark side of the force and says "swing for the Death Star" and normally ends up bad. My new swing thought for the rest of the summer is going to be "if you build it, they will come" as in build a good swing and the great shots will come. At least that's my plan. JAGolfore
Depends on the shot I want to hit. If it's a tee shot. I am visualizing the shot type. Draw or fade. If it's a shot where I am trying to be accurate, say 82 yards to the flag I just think of that number and let my body respond. Reesedw
It usually goes like this.. Put tee in ground, is that the right height? there set ball on tee, Look where I WANT to hit it too, take grip of club, address ball, Think to self "DO NOT F THIS UP".. Look again to where I want it to go.. look at ball swing, watch ball go somewhere other then where I wanted.. use colorful language, grab tee (if its ok) walk away.. Or at least that's how I feel it goes, But really - Generally nothing.. I prefer to have nothing in my head.. so that I do not let my brain try to compensate for things.. HighFade
NOT LEFT!!! Seriously, I try to have only one swing thought.
