OMG Mickelson to miss US Open

Must be a really slow sports news weekend. I saw a number of networks carrying this as a lead: Mickelson to miss US Open for daughters' graduation.

 

Well of course he is. For those of us lucky enough to have kids (daughters in particular) graduating from high school or college understand these priorities over work! Why does this even make the news?

I remember him flying back home for his daughters 8th grade graduation, then red-eyeing it back out for the second round.

Really no decision to be made. You only get one opportunity at celebrating life's milestones with your children. Golf is, after all, just a game.

 

I have a lot of respect for anyone who has priorities in order. Just my opinion.

I would do the same if it were me.  No way would I miss my daughters graduation, that and the fact my wife would kill me if I did

I guess I'm in the minority on this one. I have kids so I completely understand the importance but with today's technology it's very easy to live stream or Skype it if I couldn't fly my private jet on my own schedule to be there and back. I know my kids would want me there playing to win. They would always feel guilty for me missing the tournament and I wouldn't want to put that on them.

 

He's pushing 50 and this is the last major needed for the career grand slam and one he's finished runner up 6 times. He's realistically running out of chances to win.
