That could actually work- the brain doesn't register negatives, so it would hear "trouble left" and (hopefully) guard against that.

Whoever the PGA Tour had doing color on the live stream last week told a story:

 

I'm standing on this par 3, water left and fully setup about to take club away.

Suddenly my caddy says "that water is not in play at all"

I hit the biggest block of my life missing the green 30 yards.

I relieved that caddy of his duties after the round.
