How many wedges are in your bag?

Recommended Posts

I have started to consider putting a 62* wedge in my bag. I currenlty have 4 wedges, 46* PW, 50* GW, 54* SW, 58* LW but my 3/4 LW goes 65 yards. I really don't like to hit 1/2 wedge shots because they are very difficult for me to pull off. Does anyone carry 5 wedges? Have you seen any benefit to it? What club did you take out to add the 5th wedge?

"Obviously my iron play is incredible, and when I get going I can get hot, but this course just fits my eye. The shaping of the holes, and just a couple of the doglegs, I'm able to shape shots."

technically, yes......My C200's have PW44 and GW48, I have PMP's 52 56 60.....I don't see getting rid of any of them, I'd rather have more short game options, than an additional wood of some sort

I carry a vokey 52, 56, and 60 and then my PW from my Ping i set. I actually won't swing a wedge full except the PW. I only hit 3/4, 1/2 swing shots. The 60 I MIGHT use once in 8 rounds.

46, 51 vapor pro combo

56-10 60-8 callaway md3

Don't really like my vapor pro gap wedge, might shelf it and pickup a 52-10 md3 but then I'll have a 6 degree gap from PW. Really don't know what I'm going to do.

You can get an MD3 in 50*, and bend it to 51, this adds bounce, or buy a 52 and bend it to 51 and decrease the bounce.

I don't count the PW as a "wedge". I roll with 2. 53° and 57°

Looking to add a 48-49° "pitching wedge" and a 61° wedge. I use the 57° exclusively for the odd shots anything 75 and in. Chipping, bunker, flops, runners... that way I only have to learn that crap with one club. The 61° will take some of that load when I get it, but I think if I had more than 3 wedges I'd get lost with what shots I can do with each.

I "can" pull off all of the same shots with the 53° but usually stick one for "crafted" shots, that way I know exactly what I will get each time.

I used to run with 52, 56, 60. But even then I got the best performance out of the 56 .

Edit: Perfect set up for me.

1. Driver 11.25° or 12° Strong 3

2. 3 wood 14° or 16° 1 iron/hybrid

3. 2 iron 18°

4. 3 iron 22°

5. 4 iron 26°

6. 5 iron 30°

7. 6 iron 34°

8. 7 iron 38°

9. 8 iron 42°

10. 46°

11. 50°

12. 54°

13. 58°

14. Putter

Those lofts are modern lofts for one club weaker. So basically just 3-9 iron with 4 wedges would be great.

I never use the 3 wood off the deck. It's basically Driver #2. I'm not going for Par 5's in 2. My 2 hybrid goes 235 carry. So if I can get a drive out there around 265-280 that would get me at around 515 in two shots.

For me this is a very interesting topic as it's a part of my bag I'm still figuring it out and am constantly switching around.

Currently I have my Ping i Iron 45* and 50* which aren't going anywhere as they feel great and work wonderfully. Then I'm carrying a 56* cobra tour trusty rusty. It's so far helped because I don't have as much indecision in club choice and I've just been adjusting my swing. So 85ish yards in I will use the 56 unless I want some roll out. 85+ to 120ish I'll use the 50*.

All that being said I could switch it all around to a 54/58 but for now I'll stick with what's working(ish)

I have my PW (rsi TP), a 54 and a 58 degree both of which are Mack Daddy's.

Never felt the need to add a 4th wedge never mind a 5th! Saying that I do have a 2 iron and I play Links golf (from Scotland) so very rarely actually use my wedges. More often than not I'm bumping a 7 iron through to PW. So a high lofted wedge selection would not be to my benefit.

I think a question like this would be very much dependent on where you play.
