ole gray
Why do we talk to our golf balls? They're not alive yet everybody from hackers, advanced players, college golfers, LPGA, & PGA golfers talk to their golf balls. Sometimes we say encouraging things and sometimes we cuss em out. I wonder why we all talk to our golf balls? I talk to mine because I'm hoping one day it will listen! Shankster
Ever watch castaway? We talk to them because most people think it's weird when we talk to ourselves, so whilst we are talking to the ball we are actually talking/sh!t talking ourselves. Sometimes they listen and turn left/right/stop/run but most of the time it's just the opposite, so maybe we should ask it to Cut when we want a draw or run when we want backspin? Will_Mac
My golf ball is not unlike my loving wife. Despite all of my careful planning, it charts its own course. Despite gentle touch, I'm sometimes scorned. Although there's often many unexpected turns, it's far too often right. Despite aimiable conversation while in flight or hitting the road or walking through the park... it doesn't listen for jack $%. 😉

TheWahoo
Perhaps, while it may appear that we are talking to the ball, maybe we are asking the "golf gods" to intercede. Most golfers know that what the "golf gods" giveth" they can also "taketh". When my ball takes a bad bounce, I take some comfort that the "golf gods" owe me one. Typically, it comes in the form of making a long putt that I couldn't do again if you put a $100 bill in the hole and told me to do it again. It's my experience that the ";giveth" and the "taketh" averages out. Most assuredly, it can't be just me acting alone. Or perhaps, I'm just a Jedi golfer relying on the Force. Some days, I just find myself on the dark side.
chisag
... I have never really understood talking to a golf ball. I mean aside from the obvious of wishful thinking of course. But the cornerstone of this game is managing your emotions and your thinking. Once the ball has left the club face my job is done and I simply await my fate, good or bad. Now I will occasionally chastise myself for a particularly egregious swing or mental error, but never the ball or club. ... I listen to someone like Kristie Kerr I can't help but think how selfish she is. She demands her ball do what she wants it to do, not what she has produced with her swing and I always find it very annoying. I get someone saying GO! once in a blue moon hitting over water which is as I said earlier just wishful thinking out loud, but always talking to your ball is a fast forward player for me. Rusty1885
I play alone more than half the time on a wide open course, it's an invitation to talk to my ball in flight out loud. I like to keep it entertaining, I'd copy what I remember what was said on TV. One of my favorite is tiger's "be the right club baby!, be the right club!"
