Please read and I would love to answer your questions and hear any feedback you have about the clubs. I had a great time testing them and if you hit them, I am betting you will too! goaliewales14
I'm always up for testing new equipment whether I'm looking to purchase or just for fun. The opportunity was given to me by a local pro shop to allow me to test these irons, so I took advantage. I'm currently playing the Srixon Z545 irons as a comparison. First impression, I liked the look of them. I felt they looked inviting to hit. I did feel that these would suited for someone like myself or a beginner. They looked forgiving without being massive. I was also happy to see the pro version come out with that finish. Those would be the ones I would go for if we looked at looks alone. I took them out on the range, and I loved the sound and the feel of them. I normally don't gravitate towards Callaway for some reason. I've tested them, but I never seem to get the best out of them compared to other brands. These would be one of the first ones that I've hit that if I was looking to purchase, that I would want in the line up for a fitting. The flight was very straight and true. If I messed with the shaft in the head a bit, I could have got the flight lower to match my eye a bit better. They were very easy to get into the air. I was also able to shape the ball the way I wanted with these, the same as I would with my current set. I was able to get a little more distance out of my irons, but nothing that would scare me away from these. The only thing I wouldn't do with these iron is get the hybrids to match. The sound of those hybrids, I couldn't deal with, but that's another review. Nunfa0
Good stuff guys, these were the second best performing for me but not quite as nice a feel as the Mizunos I went with. STUDque
Updated with my stage 3. Great irons, great experience, thanks MGS and Callaway. God I love that 3-iron! Nice overall review man. The MGS mods were smart to pick you because you ended up being perfect target for these irons. Could you see yourself expanding your set into more Callaway products after this? ole gray
Callaway Steelhead Pro – Official MGS Forum Review by HighFade Conclusion This picture is all you need to know. This is the new home for my Mizunos. IMG_5531.JPG I have done a couple reviews of clubs, but so far very few have beaten my current gamers. The Steelheads are the exception. I am totally sold. You can have my Steelheads when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers. Total Score: 83/100 This is a really misleading score. It should be over 90. The low marks I gave were for the look and feel. I cannot get used to the color. I just hate it because it's not stainless steel. And anyone will suffer when comparing feel with a Mizuno. But if you want pure performance, the Steelhead beats everything I have seen. And it's not close. Great job and your early comment about high and long has me interested to say the least. I actually like the darker colored irons as my Razr XF have a black finish and although you can see wear, I still think they're some sexy heifers. If were in the market which I may be soon, these will definitely get a look! newballcoach
Just curious if anybody is still gaming these irons? I will definitely be gaming them again this year. As much as I think I might want to update to some players irons, I don't think that's a good idea. I went in and did some work with a fitter last weekend, hit the P-790's and the Apex. Neither did more for me than the Steelheads. He wasn't surprised, said the steelheads were awesome and he put tons of people in them last year, was surprised when they discontinued them. I see zero reason for me to change to a club that I hit worse, these guys are still so easy to launch, and I'm starting to be able to add a little cut to them when I need to.
