Oh I know, but I know that excuse has been used by more than a few.   Congrats, that's a great win. and I should say this in the pondering thread, but despite my purchase of a pristine used G30, I'm still going to demo the G400 at the PGA Show and give it a go!!

Definitely demo it. It's really been great for me... Until this bitter cold hit... Ugh. Florida trip can't come soon enough!

yeah, the used G30 was cheap enough i could just order based on my "usual" specs. But before buying a new one and one with a couple interesting shaft options, I'd want to hit it and possibly be fit as opposed to just ordering based off my old specs.

Got the G Crossover (5i) last year. Took a bit of getting used to initially but as my swing evolved I liked it better and better .. and it (currently) owns that slot in the bag.

 

Have upgraded it (but not yet played it; only one range sesh) to the current G400 Crossover .. which is brushed satin vs black, and the Alta shaft has that paint scheme that makes it black out when looking down at address. Also, they seem to be putting the "stock" ones out as black dot ("standard" lie) vs last year's predominantly blue dot (+1 up).

 

Anyway, happy with the club and looking forward to having fun with it in '18!

Anyone hit the fairway woods yet?

 

I got to hit the 3 wood today at the PGA Superstore. I had it turned up to 15.5*, using the Tour 75 shaft. I have to admit, it was extremely fun to hit. The feel is great just like the driver. The ball flight was solid. It seemed so easy to get it up in the air. I was carrying it around 235 yards which I thought was good since I had it turned up, playing more like my 4 wood. I'd imagine at 14* it'd be better distance wise, but I'm not sure I need more distance with it.

 

Launch angle was teetering on the 12-13.5* range.... Which seemed pretty solid to me. I look forward to giving out another go. Really enjoyed the feel of it.

 

I'm going to give it another go this week. Going to compare it against the Exotics Beta 3 or 4 wood. I've heard good things about it so why not.

 

I have $400 to spend at global golf so I wanna find something.

You'll like the g400 . I have a g400 crossover (3) and while it took a bit of getting use to it's an important part of my bag

So, just to update everyone on the problem I had above, my fitter sent the head back in for repair and it came back a couple of weeks later with a new tungsten tab installed. So far I've hit a ton of balls with it and I've had no issues. I ordered it with the Tour 65 shaft but didn't like the dispersion I was seeing. My fitter let me try it with a Speeder VC 7.2 TS he had in the fitting room and it was night and day. With the Speeder shaft I'm hiting long straight bombs that carry forever. He traded me the shaft for free to help with my troubles. If anyone lives in the Charleston, SC area I highly recommend you go to David Ayres Lowcountry Custom Golf to get fitted for any clubs or get any club work done. They are the most knowledgeable people in the area and really care about helping you out.

I second this. I just got fit by those guys and they sent me out with multiple demos to make sure I got to play with what they fit me with before I buy. Class acts.

The G400 is one of the best looking, sounding, feeling, and forgiving driver. We will see if it holds up to the F8 that is on my radar.

LOL...A very valid point!!

 

She went last year.  I was hoping it would be a one time,, been there done that thing for her and she wouldn't care to go back.  But she's pretty excited about it as well.  She loves seeing all the exhibits (she doesn't golf) and of course getting a sneak peak at what's coming from all the apparel companies doesn't hurt.  She spent a lot of time in the fitness zone watching some of the stage demo's and talks, while I went to my appointments.    

 

Then of course we do Disney the day before it begins, as we both love the Magic Kingdom.

Yeah, and if you had been able to make that flight from Chicago to West Palm a couple years ago, you would have seen that is anything but the case.

 

But to the drivers, I prefer to try it in the warm Florida air in a couple weeks with a full assortment of shafts and heads.  if I tired it around here now, I'm afraid every frozen bone in my body would break into pieces with this sub zero windchill!! 

 

Won't really be playing it until March or April anyway most likely, so might as well wait and get fit for the right make up.   But everything I'm reading about this, just sounds like it's one of the best drivers in years to come along.    

 

And the great thing about that, is it's not coming from PING, it's coming from actual players like you and me!!

Yeah I loved the G30 direction. Right down the middle. But this G400 is super forgiving.... And the dispersion has been fantastic for me. My dad just keeps saying "That thing is illegal" when we play.

Oh and the sound is probably my favorite part. You'll love that. Just a solid sound. But that's what a sound lab can do for you!
