Regripping counterbalanced putter

Recommended Posts

I have a Ping counterbalanced putter and it has the original grip (see pic below).

I'd like to try a larger grip but I'm not sure how to keep the counterbalancing thing in place.

Has anyone ever regripped a counterbalanced putter?  Any chance it was a Ping?  Is it even possible?

The weights screw into the Legacy Plus and Fatso Plus models, essentially making them a counterbalance grip that is thicker. I think.

I would call PING and ask if the putter you have is counterbalanced with just a heavier grip of if it has a weight in the shaft.  Ask what is the weight of the grip and any weights used.  Then you will have an idea of what weights to use with the grip you select to match.  You might also inquire if they will install it if you send it in.

Great idea!  I never think about calling the company for some reason...

I does appear the grip provides the counter balancing,

You can a replacement PING 15" grip and build up the grip for a larger size.

You could also get the counter core SS grip. I would weigh the grip when you take it off to make sure you get the approximate same weighted grip to replace it.

You could get a regular larger grip and put in a balance certified weight or tour lock. or you could put on some lead tape along the shaft an d the regular grip

Driver - 44.5" 5.0 flex 10.5 deg Graphite Design XC 6S GP MCC4+ 1 deg closed

Irons - 5-pw, GW stnd length 5.0 flex same grip 1 deg flat. Type low medium offset cavity back, no diggers

Wedges - 56 and 60 tour grind wedge spinner and mcc4+ grip 2 flat 10 and 8 in bounce

Putter - Makefield VS LH

Ball - truvis

Carried in a Sun Mountain C-130 USA bag - BE PROUD.

HC - LH but 85 is a good number, playing in Ohio.

  • 2 years later...

I have a 38" Ping Senita B counterbalanced putter that I can't find a grip for, I'll call Ping tomorrow. How will cutting an inch or inch and a half off the shaft affect the counterbalance? I think they use a weight at the end of the grip, not sure.

I know SuperStroke has probably been the best at marketing counter balance weighing for putters, but Tour Lock has a much wider assortment to help balance any club. Link below.
