Everyone seems to be forgetting all about the Chinese golfer that shot 63...in the final round....of the Open Championship....

Poor guy - that was really really impressive.  Too bad he couldn't get to 62 and shut JMiller's fat face up but he would kept yapping about how it wasn't the same, course setup, blah blah blah...

As much as I hate on Johnny. He's right about how easy the course was set up Saturday.

When compared to the rest of the field, Grace's 62 was the 63rd best round on tour.... THIS SEASON

I skimmed through all the posts from page one to now and I think that this years Open surprised all of us.  To those that picked their favorites early on only to see them not make the weekend cut, the course was tough on them, Phil should have opted to play the Scottish Open prior to! To those that started out as JS haters, I guess he showed us a little excitement, creativity, and some not so boring golf.  All-in-all it was a great Major to watch, disappointments included, it just goes to show that the pros are human just like us, but these guy's can play! #GoGetThat

Great Open, JS proved he's for real. And with his caddy they are a team.

Grace's round was better than 63rd best this season but Johnny Miller is correct that it doesn't remotely compare to a final round 63 at Oakmont.

I'd vote for Birkdale as a major venue anytime. I thought the course was magnificent. Very Augusta like. But with a stronger field. :)

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I agree with that, the course was amazing...it has a little bit of everything and as an added bonus for a British open, you could distinguish between the rough, the fairway and the greens on tv

I guess it probably is better than the 63rd best round on tour this season given the circumstances.

What I meant was, given what he shot compared to the field. He gained 6.7 strokes on field on Saturday. There have been (oddly enough) 62 rounds on tour this season that gained more strokes on the field than Grace did Saturday. To me, this is the best way to measure how good a round really was. Par is meaningless and so is the # shot if the conditions are easy and everyone goes low.

So, do they need to put an asterisk next to Grace's 62?

Nah... Its still the only 62 in a major. But its not nearly as impressive as Johnny's 63. Or even Thomas' 63 from earlier in the season at the US open.
