Just read that they are splitting up and neither is retiring I can't believe it I am totally shocked

Saw the news after my tournament yesterday. It definitely surprised me considering it's one of the longest tenure of player and caddie on the PGA in recent years. Maybe Phil had conversations with Lydia Ko during callaway meetings ? 😂😂. Whomever Bones works for is going to get some immense knowledge and experience as will whomever ends up working for Phil.

Bones had both knees replaced this past winter.  I can see him going into the booth and believe he would be fantastic in that role.  And it would be much easier on his already tired body.

After reading a bunch on this, apparently there's been some recent tourneys where the body chemistry between the two was pretty bad and while they're great friends, I think they agreed it was time to do something different for the sake of the friendship.

 

Breaking it off mid season is odd, but if a change is needed, I suppose it's better to do it sooner rather than later.

 

But of the things you never thought would happen in golf, this is up there.

Bones has got a job! He's now an analyst for Golf Channel.

Wow dude that's super surprising. I was watching Golf's greatest rounds last night and they were showing the 2013 Open. During one of the interviews, Phil did nothing but compliment Bones and their chemistry together.

 

Imagine my surprise to see this announcement 12 hours later.

I don't think Bones can walk carrying a bag anymore. Good move on his part. 2 replaced knees is a lot to deal with.
