Syds273
I feel like I can fade and draw the longer irons, naturally want to hit a straight/tiny draw but find it easy to hit a 10 yard slider left to right. Even the 3 iron I can get it to move either way and still carry decent distances! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I like Rick - and Pete, and Mark, and... enjoy watching their vids... but I don't get how he can create a list of the "best" irons; according to a recent stat I read (on MyGolfSpy!) 84 percent of golfers fit the mid-high handicap profile. He doesn't have a HC because he's a pro but I think he estimated he'd be a plus-2 or something. Entertaining nonetheless but I do question his perspective... dang3rtown 1 Quote Driver- Cobra Aerojet LS Woods- Cobra LTD 3w 15*, 5W 19*, F9 24* Irons- XXIO X (6-A) Wedges- Callaway Jaws Raw (54/58) Putter- Bettinardi BB56 Ball- Maxfli Tour X Buggy- Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy Bag- Motocaddy Dry-Series Proudly testing for 2024:
Shankster
The middle is the middle. I don't know. I think GI irons are pushed too much. If you honestly need the help, then fine. But what is the real difference between say the i200 and the G400? You get "jacked" lofts on both, which technically makes them harder to hit. A bit more MOI or whatever the heck it is called. To each their own, but I think SGI/GI are pushed too much. If you can't find the middle... the Super Duper Special Double Secret Probation Improvement irons aren't going to help you. (SDDSPI) But, there is a market for 500 different kinds of clubs. So find one that fits and go. Just keep up pace of play, and use some etiquette... I agree... wasn't trying to start an argument... someone can find as many "best of" lists that they want and they all may be completely different... the GI and SGI has been pushed so hard lately that there is now a negative connotation to it... which is sad because there are some really great clubs out there that are in that category. I was happy to see him include a single length set (even if it wasn't mine!) in the list. =) When he kept saying zero-three-double-ones instead of OH-three-elevens I wanted to smash my monitor. Get yourself some clubs that work for you and wear a collared shirt for crying out loud. Shankster
All good. I would Game some GI/SGI irons if they fit my game and didn't have gobs of garbage all over them. dang3rtown
Awesome reviews thus far. Is anyone a former Ping player? If so can you compare them to the old i5's (my benchmark) for Ping irons. I have experience with the i5s but I do mention a brief comparison to the old Eye2s. Basically, the i200s are much better in every conceivable way! They're just a different class of irons. The eye 2's are GI or even SGI, large heads, tons of offset, etc. The i200 is more of a player's iron, more compact, less forgiving, better ability to work a ball. It's also the result of an additional 35 years of technological improvements which adds up to a much better iron in general. I grew up playing golf but I never kept score until the first tournament I entered. Even now, I don't keep score unless I'm playing with someone and want to add it to my handicap index. I just like hitting golf shots I guess! In the end, the Ping allowed me to hit more, fun shots because I hit more fairways and greens in regulation, which is a nice thing! dang3rtown
Ended up not getting i200 irons. They felt great though and look amazing, but I just couldn't get the spin numbers up high enough with my swing compared to other better player irons, even on perfect strikes. I really wanted to go Ping again, but the performance delta was too great. Oh well I also got lower spin numbers than I would have liked. The high ball flight helped compensate a bit, I still get plenty of stopping power on the greens.
