yungkory
This is an easy list for me. After I was finally tall enough to use men's clubs, I only had 2 sets before my current: First irons I got after I outgrew my cut-down starters: Ladies' irons - I swear the brand was St. Andrew's but I can't find anything on Google. They had Carolina blue grips I'll never forget that. After finally growing: Original Callaway Big Bertha Irons Ping Eye 2 Nike Vapor Pro Combo (current) I only used the Bertha's for about 2 years until I found a set of used PE 2s. My uncle bought them for me cheap from a friend. I had always loved the look of the Pings at address, and my other uncle played them so naturally I wanted them as well since I looked up to his game. MDGolfHacker
Hmm. The first complete set I had were a set of Dunlops purchased from Dicks. After about two months of use, the driver head flew off during a range session. Retrieved the head and called Dunlop and they sent me a replacement driver. A month later teeing it up on a tee box in front of water.. Yep you guessed it, the head flew off but this time I WASN'T able to retrieve the head so that sealed the fate of my first set. I then picked up a set of Cleveland TA-7 irons with the micro-cavities. Played those for a few years until I saw the MP-32s. Love at first sight! Had to wait a year after they came out because the lefty model wasn't released until then. Love, those irons. But like an unfaithful husband, my eye wandered to other irons and the regret of losing such perfect irons. MacGregor Forged blades, then Callaway X-20s occupied my bag. In this case, the grass was not greener on the other side. Another set of Mizuno have since been in my bag, MP-57s. Now, the hunt is on for new irons so we'll see what will make the cut... Doh.. Fourtaylors
My list isn't nearly as long. I started with a set of Northwesterns I bought at Kmart. Ha ha. Then I moved into some second hand ping black dots which I had for a while but didn't play much. But in 2009 I finally got measured for a set and purchase TaylorMade R9s. I went to Golf Galaxy last year with my R9 7 iron and hit it along side about every new 7 iron out there and couldn't find anything that felt better or really anything that I hit better, so I continue to hit the old faithful R9s. chisag
From first to current I've used: Lynx tour mc (probably my least favorite, went back to the wilsons) ... Interesting. As you can tell I really enjoyed them and one of the few sets of irons I reviewed and I still own: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/313660-new-killer-forged-iron-from-lynxlx-tour-mc/ Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... chisag
This list is insane! You actually gamed all of those sets? I have to say - My Maxfli Revolution Black Dots are still amazing. Most underrated and largely unknown iron from back in the day. There is a loyal following lurking on the internets still. ... I am an equipment enthusiast, which sounds much better than Club Ho. Those of us mature golfers remember a time when we could buy new or used irons, play them awhile and then sell them for what we paid or a small loss and it was much easier to play everything out there. As a Teaching Pro with the IPGA I received quite a few sets from Titleist, Wilson and Tommy Armour when I was on staff. But I started reviewing clubs in the early 90's and that is the main reason I have played so many different irons. Jiro 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Ventus Red Velocore 5R Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ...
