Seriously the 62 FC-4000s have been in the family since they were new in 1962. My old man got them when he was on Macgregor Staff. That was the one set of irons he flat refused to get rid of. When he was on other staffs those sat in his bedroom closet in an old Spalding canvas carry bag. He would let me play them on occasion like when my Spalding Elites got stolen. Lets see I still have my original Ping Anser from 73 or so which was actually a shop demo. In fact I still have the putter it replaced which is an IM-5 Mac Ironmaster which is about 1966 vintage. sirchunksalot
The first set I owned was a set of old blades that my brother bought me. I can't remember what brand they were, I just remember it was the odd number irons, 3,5,7, and 9. NiftyNiblick
The iron sets that I've kept: 1954 Wilson Staff DynaPowered (with MacGregor Tommy Armour Woods) handed down from my uncle. 1964 H&B PowerBilt Citation (first new set, high school graduation gift) 1972 Spalding Top Flite (an "almost cavity back") 1978 Spalding Executive (first with Lynx Predator "semi-metal" woods / Then with Maltby custom made persimmon woods; the Executive irons were an inexpensive big seller and more forgiving than the new Pings then making the scene--terrible shaft-over-hosel look, though) 1984 Wilson 1200 GE (with TaylorMade original "Pittsburgh Persimmon" real metalwoods; again a Ping-type iron that I liked better ) 1997 Titleist DCI 962 (model with most rounds played on them--in my bag almost to the end with Titleist PT metalwoods) 2001 Kenneth Smith Royal Signet (irons and fitting were retirement gift from my union...I retired about a month after 9/11 at the age of 55; keepsakes hardly played) 2015 Hogan FW15 (got all excited about the no club numbers--didn't play well with them; was regularly in conversation with you guys then) current Mizuno JPX 919 Tour impulse purchase never played. silver & black and sirchunksalot

I never hit them with the Tour White steel shafts and immediately re-shafted them with the Steelfiber i95's. I hate to sound like a Marketing Director but they are everything I want in an iron. Beautiful at address with the perfect size, shape and top line. Crazy for giving for a players iron and they are giving me about +1/3-1/2 of a club more distance so I still hit one a little longer than I think I will as I get used to the distances under all conditions. ... I really wanted to like the Cobra Forged Tec's and even contemplated a combo set of FT 5-7 and King Tours 8-pw but just never felt comfortable with the FT's. The thing for me is the T200's seem like a combination of the best of the FT's and KT's ... in one iron head. I thought I may need to replace the hollow PW but it has performed as well as I could ask. Knockdowns are no issue and they produce very consistent yardages. LimeTime
My first set were Callaway Steelhead X-14's - got them for Christmas when I was in middle school, and played them until I was 22 . After that, bought my buddy's set of Taylormade R9 TP's - had those in the bag for about 4 years until 2018 when I did my first fitting and got into some Ping i500's. Those were a great set. The long irons almost feel like cheating. It’s Ok…I spent the better part of last summer / fall sounding like a Marketing Director for Titleist so it’s totally relatable! Really glad to hear that they’re working for you Sam…that’s a great setup…and a great problem to have! Steve F
Since I just started this endeavor April of 2022, my list is short and sweet! I went and got fitted back then as a stone cold novice, walked away from Second Swing with a set of 2015 TaylorMade Speedblades that I do enjoy playing! I figure they'll last me a long time! What is the average "life expectancy" of irons? What, if anything, "wears out"? ... or does it become a matter of "... I want new irons...".
