TBT
I'm in the market for a new set of irons and I'm having a hard time deciding which ones to go with, here are the contenders and no particular order. Callaway Apex CF16 Titleist AP2 Callaway XR Steelhead Pro Taylormade M2 Cobra F7 I would love to be able to get the new Epic irons but the cost is WAY TOO HIGH! I have hit all of these with some decent results but nothing has really stood out about any of them. I would love to hear the the thoughts of members that are playing some of these. DeacLaw05
If you are in the market for new irons and haven't tried the Srixon Z565/765/965 line, you're doing yourself a disservice. I did a full iron fitting with multiple shafts and clubheads from multiple manufacturers, and the 565 outperformed most of the options listed in the original post (for me at least). I got them at the beginning of May, and I have lowered my handicap index from 7.9 to 6.1 since then.

jaskanski
You need blades. Seriously though, if you've tried each one of these then surely you must have some sort of preference? If not, then do you really need a total stranger to tell you what is best for your game? Play what you like at a price you can afford - at the very worst, there's always someone equally as indecisive as you that has bought one of the sets on your list and is looking to sell them at a loss. PlaidJacket
Can you not at the very least get a basic retail fitting? Full complete fitting would be better with a professional fitter. I believe in letting the fitting help determine what is best performing for you. If none if this interests you then grab a set and go and hope for the best. STUDque
Just to set your mind at ease, the Apex irons are just as good as the new Epics. My best golfing buddy went to Golfsmith with intent and buying power to get the Epics and changed his mind once he hit them (lost yardage and feel). If the rest of the clubs are all equal, just get ones that match the rest of the clubs in your bag. Or that fit your eye the best. No matter what you get, you'll need to get adjusted to them over the course of a season or two before you're really seeing the impacts anyway. Happy hunting Sent from my LG-H812 using MyGolfSpy mobile app Yes I know they are all over the map as far as players irons, GI or SGI and that's a big part of the problem. I haven't gone through a fitting in a few years but I've played Callaway Raxr X Blacks, Bridgestone J40 DPC's, Cleveland 588 MT's and currently playing TM Speedblades. My eyes like the thinner profile irons but I think my game is better suited with a GI set. I have heard people describe the Apex CF16 as a cross between a players iron with game improvement characteristics, that's why it's so high on my list.
