Looking to buy new irons

I'm in the market for a new set of irons and I'm having a hard time deciding which ones to go with, here are the contenders and no particular order.

Callaway Apex CF16

Titleist AP2

Callaway XR Steelhead Pro

Taylormade M2

Cobra F7

I would love to be able to get the new Epic irons but the cost is WAY TOO HIGH!

I have hit all of these with some decent results but nothing has really stood out about any of them.

I would love to hear the the thoughts of members that are playing some of these.

Have you checked out the PING i200?

Agreed definitely check out ping. If it was me I'd be going ap2, but whatever is best for you and your swing. A good fitter would be able to show you what is best for you.

The Ping iBlades were very similar to the AP2 in my side by side testing too. Same shaft and club, I preferred the iBlade over the AP2.

Hmmmm,

Ive only tried the Cobra F7 but in single length and preferred the cast versus Forged. have you tried the Srixons?

The 565 and 765 are soooo sweet. I don't have the swing for the 965

If you liked all of them, not particularly one over the other, then I'd go with whatever looks best to you.

Try a few out, what do you hit well? After that, if you really want a set, look on eBay or check your local pro shop for a set of demos or returned clubs. You can usually find a good price on almost new clubs. My dad picked up a set of Mizuno JPX 900s, used maybe once or twice, for $600 out the door yesterday!

If you are in the market for new irons and haven't tried the Srixon Z565/765/965 line, you're doing yourself a disservice. I did a full iron fitting with multiple shafts and clubheads from multiple manufacturers, and the 565 outperformed most of the options listed in the original post (for me at least). I got them at the beginning of May, and I have lowered my handicap index from 7.9 to 6.1 since then.

That's quite the range of irons. AP2s are more of a players iron compared to the M2, Apex and F7

You need blades.

Seriously though, if you've tried each one of these then surely you must have some sort of preference?

If not, then do you really need a total stranger to tell you what is best for your game? Play what you like at a price you can afford - at the very worst, there's always someone equally as indecisive as you that has bought one of the sets on your list and is looking to sell them at a loss.

Can you not at the very least get a basic retail fitting? Full complete fitting would be better with a professional fitter.

I believe in letting the fitting help determine what is best performing for you.

If none if this interests you then grab a set and go and hope for the best.

I got better numbers with the CF16 compared to the AP2, for what it's worth.

Hit the Srixon last week, do yourself a favor and test these as well.

... Since several have mentioned them, I have a like new set of 545's that could pass for brand new I am getting ready to list in the classifieds. I just have to figure out whether to re-shaft them with the C Taper Lite X Flex shafts that came with them or put in some KBS Tours. Heads played one round and shafts are unused. Any suggestions?
