Apparently the game improvement are coming soon. Also notice the age group; gotta be young to play them. Glad they rounded my age down to 50 . While these are players clubs, they are not the butter knives if yesteryear. Even the players irons have some forgiveness. I tested the GI and players and while I did see some performance degradation with the players it wasn't as severe as I thought it would be. Still with my limited playing time I am going with GI to minimize loss from bad shots. Shankster
I wouldn't be discouraged by the handicap of the testers. It's all about your own confidence. If you are a 20 cap you can play the i200's for certain... little foreshadow there. You could be a great ball striker, and other parts of your game are off. And the middle of a golf club is the middle of a golf club. If you can't find it, you could have double secret probation game improvement clubs and hit them as poorly as a "players" iron. Its a pretty good review. He falls in love with the irons like many people are, and ends up gaming them. It's always good when you seen the data lining up with video reviews or visa versa! Rick Shiels....although he doesn't carry a handicap since he's a teaching pro....estimated that if he had one it would be plus 4. I don't disagree and Rick played the i200 (I think..or one of the Ping blades) before switching but he is a very good golfer so understand that when thinking about these clubs. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I agree... in principle... but don't expect the same level of forgiveness as you would get with a game improvement iron. It's just not going to be there. yes, there will be some forgiveness on off-center strikes, but all I am saying is be sure to understand what you want out of a set of irons before making a rash judgement. I'm a 13 handicap and I played fine with a set of Apex Pro's last year - which I believe are considered "players" irons.... don't just rush out and buy them because they were #1 and it got you all hot-and-bothered; but by all means, if you like them and hit them well then go for it. I think they look very nice....but a lot of things look nice. One more thing that really is important about the v6 series is the lofts of the irons. They are different than the others in the list so take a look at that closely. Shankster
I am a firm believer in asking for forgiveness is better than asking for permission.... Meaning play your shot and except the outcome. If your hands hurt, ask for forgiveness. I see where you are coming from... sort of. But these aren't going to be hand rattling clubs of the past. But play what you want. These clubs could fit a lot of different players. When my handicap was higher it was due to driver and putter problems. Always been a good ball striker. Your handicap doesn't need to put you into a club category. Go hit some like you said. You might surprise yourself. scooducks
You don't need to be a scratch golfer to play these clubs. All golf clubs have a bit of game improvement features. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Totally true, but there is something to be said about game management when it comes to picking out your sticks. If you know you aren't a consistent ball striker, going with a set from the "players" category probably isn't wise. The difference in distance dispersion on an off-center strike between a what I will call "suped up" players iron (e.g. AP2) and a SGI iron could be up to 5 yards. On a par three over water, that's the difference between a 3-4 and a 5-6 on the scorecard, plus a wet ball. If anything, there is a case to be made that players irons aren't necessarily essential when trying to shape shots or control trajectory. It's more about feel, look at address, and familiarity. I'm trending towards scratch, but I'll never be able to play a pure MB iron. I just don't have confidence when I put one behind a ball, even though I hit the center of the face more often than not. Had I started golfing 10-15 years before I did, then I likely would have played a blade style iron (as there weren't many premium CB options), and I'd still be playing them out of familiarity. Not all mid or high handicaps are equal. I know some mid caps that can hit a driver and irons beautifully, but put them on or around the green and their game is a mess. Then there are those that can chip and putt with the best of them, but have no long game. It's important for every golfer to be honest with him or herself as to what they are good at, and only then will they steer themselves to the correct equipment for their game. yungkory
While my handicap might put me in the category outside of players irons, I just can't be comfortable putting the bulky heads of the GI irons behind my ball, it just throws me off so much.
