Range Trolls

Just drop a ball on the deck, grab the driver and smash one. No one will say a dang thing to you anymore.

The way some of the guys on the league at this place talk makes me wonder.

The new driver has a command presence noise it makes too, an almost deafening sound, hard not to notice.

All jokes aside here. I've ran into a few guys that I could have fixed with a minor set up issue and had them playing good. I really want to say something, but I figured if they wanted my help they'd ask. Like the guy I asked you all about last year on the chipping green with is super weak left hand and his extra strong right hand.

So Shankster,

Ive been watching you post for a little while now, and I think if you try to use a few more adjectives and pregnant pauses, I think you could really improve your posts... ^_^

Can i give you some advice?

No you can't.

Don't you know it's rude to offer unsolicited advice.

Also, I'm taking lessons and I know what to work on.

You've seen me play for 9 holes only so what makes you think you know what my fault is? What you saw was an abnormal swing mechanic that reared it's ugly head while you happened to be looking at me. And by the way,I am concentrating on correcting a fault and during this concentration while I'm swinging the club, there is bound to be some other gremlin that crawls in and screws everything up.

So don't offer me unsolicited advice.

Guy behind me comes up to me on the 9th tee and asks this question?

"No thanks" is what i simply said.

I did not say the above, but I'm thinking it. Am I wrong in this thought?

How would you have handled this?

I have a confession to make.

When i wrote this, i was under the impression that i was making a new thread.

I wrote this up and went about my business.

Later that day I went searching for the thread i started and lo and behold, it disappeared.

So i'm wondering, what happened to my thread?

Did iItick someone off and it got deleted?

Then I got notifications that someone liked a post I made in this thread and i'm thinking, i don't remember making a post here.

Well, i'll be darn, i see my post in here and wondering, must have had a major brain fart.

Zees.

But i see that earlier posts had similar discussions so it kind fit in the thread but I wasn't on the range, at the 9th hole.

A complete stranger.

Anyways, mystery of the missing thread solved.

Bump on an oldie but a goodie here...

My local muni track which I consider my home course is great. It's kind-a what I'd consider a "blue-color", "red-neck" sort-of joint with a down home vibe and just kind of a place where you'd wanna hang out in the bar after a long day riding your Harley...and trust me, many do.

They have a guy there whom I've seen many times pimping his coaching classes, and I've seen him trolling the range many times before. Today I arrive to hit a bucket, and he's parked on the range (near where an opening is that I can slide onto) with a chair and a sign that basically says: "DUDE! 1/2-hour with me will cure your slice"...yada, yada, yada... OK then. I have no troubles with capitalism, so good on him...advertise and drum up work...fine.

Anyhow, I set ups shop stage right, get my alignment sticks out, launch monitor set up and begin creating a breeze that should cure (or contribute to) global warming depending on your particular stance... Anyhow, after a bit, another fella sets up to my right who looks just like Stone Cold Steve Austin...all tatted-up and just "swol". But, he is absolutely terrible! Flat-footed and all arms. I see out from my left this coach guy stumble all over himself to snap up his clipboard and turn-to in order to go introduce himself to this guy and start "helping". Trouble was, he had to pass me to get to him...er, or was that a "trouble"? I must have had something going that kept him from me-Lord knows what that was, but essentially he ignored me and went to this guy. Fine. He really did need some help, but what balls..! I was actually a little uncomfortable myself for Stone Cold, and could see and hear him trying to extract himself from the situation...I think they are still there going back and forth...!😧 No not really, but damn, that was awkward.

Hahaha that does sound like a Facebook moment missed.
Things like this is why I love earbuds. Wear them just to keep those that feel the need to help away.

Okay so I was the troll yesterday on the practice green.

The last several weeks there has been a young guy, obviously a beginner, spraying his bucket of balls all over the practice green trying to hit basic chips. His dispersion pattern yesterday was larger than the practice green and this is an extremely large practice green.

It was classic, he’s taking the club back far enough to hit a full shot and then decelerating. So I approached him, asked if he wouldn’t mind two very simple pieces of advice. He’s seen me chip for three or four weeks and so said - anything you’ve got man.

First swing he was inside five feet and hit lots of them there. The green was safe again.

My second piece of advice was to book a lesson with the pro. :)

Nice job Rev. There are times where the exception to the rule is certainly warranted by the right person.   That seems like the case in both instances.

Nice. You probably kept him from leaving the game because of frustration.

Not a member at a club so I go to public ranges.  I rarely go to a range at a course and predominantly go to a "golf range".  As you can imagine you get all sorts of characters there - boyfriends and girlfriends, old timers giving advice, guys with headphones in with a flashing "DO NOT TALK TO ME", groups of teens trying to hit it over the fence.

Looking forward to what this year holds... I've had some interesting experiences in the past.

My local range was packed today...50 degrees brought out all the characters. I guess that includes me as well 🤦🏼‍♂️

One thing that always amuses me...I love watching the guys who drag their girlfriends out who clearly hate golf but want to show off in front of them.

I cannot understand the mindset there. I see that all the time and I’m like... why? Is it payback for going clothes shopping with them or something?
