[article] A case for why Tiger Woods should not try to play golf

STUDque

Recommended Posts

I found this to be a good read:

http://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/19753624/tiger-woods-case-why-woods-not-try-play-golf-anymore

TLDR: Tiger should quit because his body can't hold up and turn to coaching

Honestly I think it's time for us to accept that the Tiger we all remember is gone. Now if he decides to come back and play, awesome. I hope he does and continues to win, but there are other great golfers out the playing amazing golf.

I hope if Tiger does come back it is because he wants to and not because he feels like he has to. He does not owe us or the game anything. Tiger brought golf back and showed a new generation the game.

All of these writers dictating TW's options for the future infuriate me to no end. I wonder how long before one of these keyboard prophets demands he undergo cryogenic freezing...for both his own benefit and the greater good of the game of course.

Their job is to create buzz and stir stuff like this up. It makes their readers share the story because of the shock value, and brings more folks to the site. It worked very well obviously, since it made its way into the forums and we're all talking about it.

I just hope by now Tiger can block it out. He's already not in the greatest state of mind it seems, and garbage like this can cut deep.

I agree with, Tiger should do what Tiger wants, but I do miss seeing the Tiger of old.

And if the author read Haney's book, I don't think he'd be advocating teaching for Tiger. The guy doesn't seem to really like people.

The best thing for Tiger is...

Leave the dude alone. Let him heal. Stop speculating. Frankly it is none of our business what he is up to. If he chooses to never pick up a club again, the sport will go on.

Give the man some privacy.

Find someone else to write about, make the next big thing happen. Stop dwelling on "what could have been", there is plenty of talent out there.

I challenge the sports writers to go 1 week with out mentioning Tiger, I bet I won't get any takers.

Tiger will do what Tiger wants to do.  It will be what it is.

The person I feel sorry for is Joe LaCava.  20 years working for Freddie, then Dustin Johnson, then six 3 years for Tiger.  I guess he has a good arrangement with Tiger, but I have to believe that he could have been on some rising star's bag and who knows if Tiger will be playing again anytime soon.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

The fact of the matter is Tiger Woods is the best thing that ever happened to golf. Just like this ESPN article, his name gets views so writers are gonna keep writing.

I, for one, would love to see him coach. I think he'd be great at it. It would make a fantastic reality show that I would watch every single episode.

Tiger will never be Tiger again...at least how we remember him. I wish that every golf writer or TV talking head who had to quit the game because they couldn't make a 4 foot downhill putt into a mop bucket, would leave the man alone!

They can't get through a single telecast without talking about what he has done in the past or comparing some young golfer to Tigers accomplishments, it gets old fast.

Let him be, let him heal and maybe he can come back and be competitive, but he is never going to be dominant again.....and he is never going to teach either.

I think his presence would be too intimidating. Mr. Woods is the main reason I love golf. The dude was like Led Zeppelin, brought an enormous amount of people too the game, and for that we all owe him a few years to get his crap together. I have a feeling he won't lose much on the Champions Tour if he chooses to play there. That will give him 8 - 9 years from now to heal, mentally and physically. He still had that shock and awe that we all love or hate. Just tripped a little, I know I have... he will get up put a smile on and play, or say screw it and hang it up.

I just don't like ESPN covering golf. Stick to sports center or soccer.

How do I apply to be a golf announcer? I would spice things up a bit. They just better have their censor button on point...

Tiger's show would have to be him working with struggling PGA pros or Web.com players. You're right, amateurs would have no idea what he's talking about and be too awestruck to make real improvements.

True. Tiger has been done for some time and Foley kind of put the icing on the cake.

His early swing changed golf and really is a marvel to see. Many many hours spent watching those that can disect it correctly doing so shows it for the perfection it was, for a time as some are before a "fix" or change...  His injuries were not golf related to start with. Tiger played weekend warrior with the elite forces, if Haney is to be believed, and bulked up accordingly. That is the shame of the deal. He did it by choice and his zeal and intense training for all things hoorah outside of golf was his downfall to begin with.

He did bring golf back and then propelled it. I hope that whatever works for Tiger when its all said and done it is simply a steady climb back to the greatness that he was.

I started reading Haneys book "The Big Miss" a few days ago. It seems Tiger wasn't a people person.

He was brought up to be the best golfer ever and to always get better. Don't think that mindset has changed.

Good points. I usually watch baseball with low volume or other stuff going on in the background so I never notice the announcers. Golf and football announcers get all my attention and volume ha.

I grew up listening to the Tigers and the Wolverines on the radio. My grandfather was the ultimate Tigers fan. He never had the volume up when watched on TV, and enjoyed listening to his favorite announcers on the AM radio instead. That is a fond memory.

I watched a lot of Michigan Football, but listening to it on the radio just made it that much better. Hearing the excitement in the announcers voice and the crowd going nuts. Just something about it.

Both of the announcers are gone now, and it is much less exciting.

Everyone wants social media this and social media that. I prefer the radio for baseball, and football. Golf... I have to watch with the volume down all the way, those guys drive me nuts.

I remember seeing a telegram from Arnie to Jack I think, congratulating one or the other on a win. Probably took a few hours to get there. Now it's instant. Sometimes I dislike technology.

ESPN butchers everything.

If Tiger can play I think he will and he should.

As long as he doesn't embarrass himself, his ego won't be able to take the hit. He is the consummate perfectionist.

There's nothing worse than an over the hill athlete hanging on and looking terrible.

About that, last year at the presser for his tournament here in DC at Congressional, he teed it up on 10 and dunked not one but two balls in the drink. Poor guy. Should've taken 2 extra clubs and launched it in the woods.
