hellrung do you still use the orange whip? I’d love to know if it’s stood the test of time.

The OW is an indispensable part of my routine before I play.

Warmed up w OW B4 this morning round. I’m not trying to set any records here but I think this may have promise. After a short warmup using the “exercises” shown on OG website I was definitely warmed up better than usual, Unfortunately didn’t relate to any on course heroics.
Plastic has been removed, don’t need all that extra weight

I won an OW a couple years ago and I mostly keep it at the office to keep my swing grooved and loose during the work week. I don't do too many website drills but focus mainly on tempo and also swinging as hard as I can.

I hate the range so this does a suitable job. It's great for tempo, but the weight and flex also helps promote lag and helps strengthen your forearms and hands to flip through impact. It also helps you avoid casting or going over top.

I'm a fan!

Its pretty remarkable the amount of attention this post has generated.  I'm glad I was able to provide some insight.  To the question as to whether I still use the OW, I ended up "lending" it to a buddy and it still lives in his garage lol.  Still think of it as a solid golf training aid though.  :-)

I think all of us in this site are golf true believers. Before I go out and spend $109 I was just looking to see if this was one of those devices that makes it past 1 season in my bag or my warm up routine. There is no magic bullet. But I’m like most golfers who gets 15-20 min before my round to warm up and sometimes it’s checking in and hitting the course immediately.

I’ve only had OW for a few days and see some benefit. Most courses don’t have a range to warm up only a couple of nets.
Using this B4 play definitely loosens up my back, shoulders, etc. and gets me warmed up.
I think this will be a keeper.

I'm on second season and the OW is integral to my warm-up and I have used it a ton over the winter for flexibility and tempo.

The Orange Whip resides in my living room (I have cathedral celings). I use it a few times a week. It has helped my swing path and tempo. I can honestly say that my average scoring was in the high 70's and now I'm consistently in the lower 70's and two rounds in the high 60's. The only change I made was the OW and a Ping G400 Driver in my bag.

Would buy it again.

I got mine at Christmas and I love it. It helped me stay limber throughout the winter and I've been using it a lot given local ranges were closed until recently. My first range session went far better than I expected it to after the long layoff and I definitely attribute that to the OW. The first scoring round... eh that didn't go so well but I'm not blaming the OW for me being a bonehead LOL.

...In fact, I like the Orange Whip so much I'm going to add the "Compact" version.

Can you share some of your experience with the compact version? I want to find something I can use indoors (I have double-height living room ceilings, but not a lot of horizontal space) and have fun with through the Seattle winters (when it just isn't fun to go train outside that much).

If the trade off in ability to feel the pace and rhythm of the swing is seriously lacking in the compact version, I'll have to go with the full size... but if it's close, I think I can find space for the compact more easily. :-)

just grabbed an OW on Mercari for $75.  should be here at the end of the week.  i'm looking forward to it since i don't always get to the course early enough to hit a small bucket before my round.  i hate feeling tight at the first tee box.  i'll come back and share my experiences

Hey, sorry this reply is delayed just saw the post......

Briefly the Compact .. yes, can allow you to swing indoors .. but is more oriented towards simulating an iron swing vs a longer full swing like with a driver. I feel it's a great companion to the full length OW Trainer, and I use mine a lot as I'm currently focusing on improving my iron game.

The Compact has the same construction and materials so it looks and reacts similarly to the longer trainer, and it can definitely help you work on tempo, timing, balance, positions/movements, etc. .. just, again, in a shorter swing arc vs a driver/wood type swing.

But if it's that or nothing I'd say go for it!!

I have had the OW for 5 years. I mainly use it as other on here...to warm up.

I have noticed those first few swings after putting the OW down are just incredible. I can feel myself compressing the ball, lag, the club feels so whippy and on my simulator I can see the results, much improved...but then it slowly goes away after a few swings. So I grab the OW and take 5 swings, put it down and take a few real swings and same thing. But then the feeing goes away...

Would you attribute this to tempo? Does the OW force me to swing with a certain tempo and then it just “wears off” after a few swings? I would love to  “ingrain” that swing feeling of those first few swings after the OW.

Just wanted to update here...

I tried something different today on my simulator. After warming up....I took 8-10 swings with the Orange Whip. Then I slowly hit 5, 9 irons....then I took 8-10 swings with the OW...then I slowly hit 5 8 irons....I did this all the way through the bag, minus Driver...I have other issues there. No extra swings, nice and controlled, focusing on tempo and having same swing as with the OW....the results were incredible.

I play to an 8.4 index so have a pretty good idea of what a good swing should feel like. With my simulator I can see the results as well and it was just amazing to me. I would guess I was hitting close to a 3-4 index. Everything compressed and straight, 8-10% further in distance...and I felt so controlled and like I was swinging at 80%.

So I know the OW can get my swing in the “ideal zone” for 4-5 swings after using it. The question is...can that feeling last? I’m sure if I took 10 swings I would start to “lose the feeling” as in the past. So how do I ingrain this feeling permanently?

Yup, I see the same thing with the OW. Swing starts out OK then my tempo starts getting quick. Occasionally I’ve took a couple of swings to get the tempo back but I forget most of the time.
We’re not playing anything except Ole Fart golf so nobody cares.

You are on the right track.  As @rbsiedsc said, repetition.  If you train your muscles to perform a task in the correct way, the body will eventually "remember" that motion (myelin) and become your new swing.  What happens when we get out of that "new motion" is that the body goes back to what felt "normal" before your 5 good swings.

If you want to read about this training, I recommend "The Talent Code" by Daniel Coyle.  Very interesting book about training at talent hot beds (including golf) around the world.

I only recently saw the orange whip.  A buddy has a similar swing trainer in yellow that I used a few times and liked the way it made me smooth out as I tend to get very quick. I actually ordered the same one as his but delayed in shipping so still waiting for it.  Apparently, these swing trainers are allowed to be carried in the bag too, he always has his with him and swears by it
