My WITB: Hopefully will be updated fairly soon....

Recommended Posts

Driver: Adams SpeedLine Fast 10 - we have a love/hate relationship.  When he behaves, it's a beautiful thing.  When not, he goes to timeout.

3W:  Callaway Razr Fit - $10 in the used rack.  I LOVE this club.  I see why Henrik Stenson has reportedly cornered the market on his head type.

3H:  TaylorMade RBZ - also very friendly club to me.

4-PW:  PowerBilt TPS - I bought these new in the fall of 1996.  At the time, I hit them better than the Wilson Staffs and Pings I tested side-by-side.  They have served me very well, but I did not realize what I was missing until I played in Mexico a couple years ago and the rental clubs were new-ish Callaway X2 Hots (I know they were Callaways, not 100% on model).

AW:  Mizuno S5 - I really like this club and feel comfortable with full swing, knocking it down, whatever.

SW:  Pretty old Cleveland "Rusty" that does not see much use - I feel better knocking down the gap wedge where a full SW might be the alternative.

60*:  Callaway S-grind - getting better at judging (and executing) flop shots, but all around pretty good to me.

Putter:  Ping Scottsdale TR Senita - my first go at a mallet style and I like it.  The sound is very different on off-center putts to let me know, but does not lose much pace or line with mishits.

Once I am able to get new irons (in case it was missed in another thread, the wife is game, but there is a condition I have yet to meet), I feel like it is a pretty solid bag, especially for a bogey golfer.  If/when I get new irons, thread will be updated accordingly.

I used to live and breath the Rusty until I got the 60* last year and the gap wedge this year.  I still like it in the sand but don't have much confidence with it elsewhere.  For me, I have discovered confidence in the club is almost as important as anything else.  Right now, my confidence is very high with the 3W, 3H, and AW.

Confidence goes a long way for me as well. Good luck with the upgrades, I thoroughly enjoyed testing new clubs and throwing them in the bag in my recent upgrade spree. Paying off the credit card bill at the end of the month -- not so much

Well thought out Confidence is the key word there. I have always been a big proponent of playing what you have confidence in no matter the brand cost or date of manufacture. The only thing now (thanks to the USGA) is making sure clubs that are 25* or more are conforming IF you are playing stipulated comps. Like my signature says I am retired from formal comps so I could give two hoots less about the groove rule. I play for fun now and small money games and none of the folks I play with give 2 hoots either. Look at my signature set I play a variety mix of old and sorta new. I am always messing around with wedges which now is part of my fun. Look at my hybrid that thing is 20 years old and the Vokey wedge is at least 15 and the Wilson is 25. Now I do have several conforming wedges IF I ever decide to play a stipulated event again.  To wrap it up part of my fun is sticking my middle finger at the USGA and playing what I damn well please!

Those Powerbilts look just like Ping ISI's with the shape of the sole and toe.

Those were definitely one of my favorite iron sets that I have gamed. Loved the way those irons performed. Nice set!
