HeathS16
I'm a 24 handicap I have been playing serious for about 10 months now at the age of 32. And today finally broke 90 (89). The rough was five plus inches at pine brook golf course in CLE. The green were slowish and with the rain the fairways were still soft not soggy. I had 2 three putts 1 penalty and no green in reg on par 3's. I scrambled and made it work today. I took my chances on par 5's and long par 4's and only pulled the DRIVER out once. I'm damn proud; now wait until Sunday when I can't break 100 my titlesist 915 hd 20.5* was my saving grace today off the tee. Progress is being made and so much more to improve.... thanks for letting me brag MGS my wife wouldn't listen. nitaizipp16
First time I broke 100 was in 4th grade. Played at soldier hollow in Utah with my dad and grandpa, and was +25 going into 18 of the gold course, and I pared the hole for a 97. The first time I broke 90 was in 7th grade at carne golf links in Ireland. I was with my dad and had shot 43 on the front side, and came into 18 at +4. I birdied the last hole for an 82. My first time breaking 80 was this year, my freshman year of high school. I played at castle oaks golf course in the first high school tournament I'd played in, and I shot a 37 on the front nine, and was was plus 3 going in to the last three holes of the day. I had three birdies in a row for my best nine ever, my longest birdie streak, the most birdies in a round, and my lowest 18 hole score of a 73. Hopefully I'll break par sometime soon, just need to drop an average 5 strokes. STUDque
That was a great story RP. You and I both know you can be prickly, but I'm seeing there's many layers to your onion. I had never taken into account that PBs in competitive golf can feel hollow since there's always a bigger fish that can win the event. I remember mine vividly because I don't play competitive golf. Every round out, my sole goal is to shoot the best round I've ever shot. I wish someone had coached me the way your uncle did when I started. Now, I'll certainly use the approach to help my girls if they show interest....I definitely coached my brother wrong because I was (and still am) learning the proper mental game. cksurfdude
Yeah @RP58 - I wanna echo STUD's comment, re: I wish I'd had a mentor like your uncle when I was learning! Got caught up in the distance thing ... even though I didn't have any! ... and developed plenty of bad habits along the way ... before finally starting to learn, through hard-won experience and through reading great comments in the MGS forum, about course management and playing the (percentage) shot that you able to and playing for bogey (and limiting the damage so it's not worse). I now feel like I'm on my way to posting a happy story in this thread in the near future! tommc23 and RP58 2 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Big money
I've always hit a golf ball a long way. But a long way crooked at times. My biggest milestone was driving my first par 4.It was 405 yards and hit it extreme back of green. The ball landed in front of the green and rolled all the way to the back.If I played more I'm pretty sure I could get more consistent and control the ball better. Many are just in awe how far I hit the ball without hardly playing or practicing. All that work in the gym does me wonders for sports activities Quote Keep it in the short stuff

Popular Post palvord
For my 600th post (a mild achievement), it is kind of poetic that I get to celebrate first in my golf career. (a mild achievement) It finally happened. After trying to figure out how to put together a complete round and break 90, it finally happened. My wife and I played together yesterday afternoon, and playing with my wife means that this is a legit score. My wife doesn't give me any putts, doesn't allow mulligans, and overall holds me incredibly accountable. I played "boring" golf (keep the ball on the fairway from the tee, get as close to the green as possible on the 2nd shot, chip close and putt out) on the last 9 holes and for whatever reason, everything just clicked. Can't wait to get back out there again and see what the golf gods have in store for me. russtopherb, SteddyGolf, GB13 and 23 others 26 Quote In my Ultralight Stand Bag: Driver: Rogue 10.5° - LH - Project X EvenFlow 60 Stiff Woods: King F9 - LH - 3/4 Wood - Atmos Blue TS 7 Stiff King F9 - LH - 5/6 Wood - Atmos Blue TS 7 Stiff Irons: King F9 - LH - 5-GW - KBS C-Taper Lite Stiff Wedges: King Black - LH - 52° 56° 60° - KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 Stiff Putter: - Impact No. 3 Ball: Maxfli TourX Rangefinder: LX5 Watch
