Fireinthehole
For my 600th post (a mild achievement), it is kind of poetic that I get to celebrate first in my golf career. (a mild achievement) It finally happened. After trying to figure out how to put together a complete round and break 90, it finally happened. My wife and I played together yesterday afternoon, and playing with my wife means that this is a legit score. My wife doesn't give me any putts, doesn't allow mulligans, and overall holds me incredibly accountable. I played "boring" golf (keep the ball on the fairway from the tee, get as close to the green as possible on the 2nd shot, chip close and putt out) on the last 9 holes and for whatever reason, everything just clicked. Can't wait to get back out there again and see what the golf gods have in store for me. Front 9.jpeg Back 9.jpeg Congrats! Popular Post GolfSpy MPR
Guys, I've been targeting a sub-80 round for over two years. Today, I finally did it. Our course isn't long; it's about 5,700 yards, and par is 71. I made the turn today at 5 over (40). I chipped in for a birdie on the par 5, but offset that with a double bogey caused by an OB tee shot on 8. But I caught fire on the back nine. I hit 7/9 greens in regulation. I normally hit 1, maybe 2 per nine holes. Once on the green, I was rolling every putt to easy par range. After a birdie on the short 17th, I was even par on the back. At this point, I know what's happening. I just need to avoid throwing up on myself on the par 5 18th, and I'll break 80 comfortably. Went to my (new and now) very trusty G700 4 iron. Safely in the fairway. Clean fairway wood shot, then a 6-iron to the right fringe. Gunned the chip just a bit. Now I'm about 10 feet above the hole, a dangerous place on this green. A little too much gas here, and the ball can roll forever. It's going to break hard right. I played all the break, and eased to a foot. Tap-in bogey. 77! 40/37/30 putts For those on a desktop, here's my round: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/mpatrickriley/round/2337282 And while I don't want to spoil my Stage 2 G700 review: I don't think I'm giving these up. Here's my strokes gained for the round, compared to a 15 handicap. djahubes
Once you do it once, it becomes a lot easier to do on a consistent basis. I was stuck on 80 for a long time. Would have many rounds with 9 holes in the 30s and 9 in the 40s. Once i finally broke through 80 it became more frequent.....caveat that I stink right now! Still have to hit the shots as you said but I will personally occasionally play from closer to break mental barriers. For example, I normally play from the tips but was able to break my ceiling of -3 with a round that I played in February from the whites (5,942) and shot bogey free -9 GolfSpy MPR, GB13 and cksurfdude 3 Quote * Staff Professional* Driver: Stealth Plus+ (7.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Black 6X Tipped 1" 3 Wood: Stealth Plus+ (14.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Blue 7x Tipped 1" Driving Iron: P790 UDI 2 iron - HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 100 6.5 4 Iron: P790 - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (5-7) P7MC - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (8-P) P7MB - KBS C-Taper 130 X Wedges: MG3 Black 50.09 / 55.11 - KBS TOUR FLT 130 X 60* Wedge: High Toe Raw - KBS Tour 130 X Putter: Custom Black ER2 or Custom Black Del Monte Bag: FlexTech Stand Bag Glove: Tour Preferred Glove Ball: TP5X #11 RangeFinder: R1 Smart Rangefinder Instagram: @dpattgolf

revkev
Who cares if it was short - great, great job! Sometimes the number is the barrier more than the course - get used to shooting a certain number and you may find that you are able to shoot it on a longer, tougher track too - it's kind of like the speed training that we've been discussing elsewhere - train your body to swing faster and it does.
