Michael Breed: Love him or hate him?

Recommended Posts

IMG_4181.PNG

When I first started watching golf channel, I couldn't stand this guy. I think it was because he does this weird thing with his tongue right into the microphone.

As I've watched more and more, he really seems to have some great tips and drills to practice for all sorts of swing problems. I think the best part is all the different contraptions he uses are things you can make at home so he's not just peddling swing trainers like Martin Hall.

I don't have strong feelings either way. On the one hand I think he's a good instructor and on the other a corporate shill and Titleist fanboy. Maybe a touch too Tony Robbins-esque for my taste

Don't watch his show on the golf channel or listen to his radio show so I have no opinion one way or the other.

He's ok by me. I watch him from time to time. He's been pretty successful too it seems. Good for him. Like most golf instruction you can usually take some and leave some. I don't subscribe to any one method or instruction.

Several years ago when I was using more video to analyze and improve my swing I purchased Breeds book, The Picture-Perfect Golf Swing. Best I've ever found if you're into this type of stuff. Lot's of other fundamental swing instruction in the book. The difference between his book and the TV show is that doesn't use any of his show props like swim noodles, coat hangers, or shoe boxes.

For $4 on eBay, I'm gonna give this book a shot. When I first started playing I did a lot of video analysis and could benefit from going back to it with a fresh mindset.

I think you'll enjoy it. I have never used a high speed cam like Breed probably used. However, I did use an iphone and later a Galaxy S5 which produced great results.

I also used the Hudi app. Free to download.

Like watching the ones when he's on the course with a pro.

Other then that I have picked up some good tip from watching the Golf Fox.

I like Michael. He is loud, but he makes his shows entertaining. He provides a lot of details/measurements and gives great swing tips. I love the simple aids he uses (noodles, shoe boxes, hangers) that anyone can get, if they don't already have.

I enjoy watching his Golf Fix show, I think he has good tips and breaks them down into easily understood methods which is a great help. He had one on wedge shots and chipping on different lies and went into spine angles and ball placement but made it not complicated.

Check out Shawn Clement on YouTube.  He has free and subscription stuff.  I sound like a shill (I am not), but you can't tell me his analysis is not 100% easier to understand than the Breeds and even Monte Halls (who I really like) lessons.
