Grips, The Same Size Throughout the Set?

Recommended Posts

Something occurred to me last night for the first time.  Probably because I just went through a recent fitting where I was making sure I was still a midsize grip.  I have always had my iron grips in midsize for as long as I can remember.   But last night as I was grabbing a hybrid, with the stock grip, it made me wonder why I never considered getting a midsize grip for my hybrid, or driver, of FW or wedges for that matter.

So those that have midsize grips, do you have throughout the entire set or just irons?    What are your thoughts either way on the subject?

Good question... I get extra wraps on my wedges, but standard grips on everything else. Actually thinking about going to an undersized for my Driver.

I believe i have gotten extra wraps before on the irons and wedges.  it wasn't mentioned this time for the iron grips.  That might be a thought for the wedges.

I do know, I have a hard time getting a good full release on some shots, and have been told that smaller grips will help that and larger grips inhibit that.  But have also been told by some fitters (not my current one) that the amount it affects it is very minuscule.

I have the same midsize grips on everything from driver to lob wedge. (Probably just an OCD thing, but they have to be the same)

Threw me off there a little! With the logo and the new name!

I don't use mid-sized grips but I have the same CP2 std. grips on every club. No extra buildup as the grips already have a reduced taper in the lower hand.

Mine are all over the place, I need to fix it.

Driver: Midsize NDMC

3W: Midsize MCC Plus4

Hybrid: Not sure, standard grip. I never use this club.

4i-PW: Midsize MCC Plus4

I'm waiting to get a new hybrid before I do anything with that one. I'm going to either add Plus4's to my wedges or add tape and put on some SuperStroke grips to mimic the feel of the Plus4's

Yeah, that's kinda my thought.  Up to now, I haven't thought about it, and it probably isn't making a world of difference either way.  But maybe something I'll think about going forward to try and keep them as close as possible.

I really like the MCC Plus4, but I don't like the extra thickness in my wedges, so I put standard MCC in those for more feels.

Same size grips throughout the set. Because my hands are the same size throughout the set.

Can't be said any better than that.  But are they midsize?   If they are standard, then I guess that is really a no brainier.

I have used midsize grips on everything in the bag, the last couple years.

Changed to regular grips this year, on everything. No problems so far.

Midsize top to bottom except for putter. Sometimes when I get a new club I'll play it for a few rounds before I get a chance to swap the grip and I get way more accurate once changed.

Slowly converting everything from standard to midsize. Have a Plus4 midsize on my driver, but it's a little too big. Will probably end up with everything in Plus4 standard size.

I recently went to all midsize Mcc Plus 4 grips on driver through wedges. My putter is the only club without a larger grip. I guess I'm waiting to see if I can find a good oversized grip, maybe with a counterbalance, I like before switching over.

Same grips on all my clubs, Golf Pride midsize.

While in GG this morning I looked at all the grips. I really wanted Lamkin Z5 midsize with my mizunos but that wasn't an option. The Golf Pride I ordered as stock will be fine for the testing. But I may get these lamkin z5 midsize on my hybrids and wedges to try and get them all the same size.

I currently have standard size grips throughout the set, but I used to have midsize on my wedges and standard throughout. I have pretty small hands so I think standard is a good size for me

I have midsize grips on every club in my bag, except my 3-wood which is stock. That 3-wood has got some magic in it and I'm afraid of making any changes to it.

I definitely like the midsize grips better though.

All clubs are the same, but some are different.    I sometimes swap out my Ping i20 irons for my MacGregors.  The Macs have new Pure DTX grips, same as all the other clubs.  The Pings have older PurePro grips, but they are all standard.  I have tried both standard and midsize Pures.  I actually like them both and can play them both, but don't mix them.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I use the same midsize grips on everything but my driver but that's just because I'm hitting the club well right now with the stock grip. I'll change it out soon though due to wear and put a midsize on it too. My thought process is having consistent feel through the bag to try and help eliminate extra variables but I know a few good golfers who have different grips from long to short irons so it's really whatever gets the job done.
