Golf Bachelor Party Trip

Recommended Posts

So I am getting married in May of 2018, for my bachelor party we want to do a golf weekend. Need ideas/suggestions for places.

We're in Pittsburgh and want something were able to drive to Friday morning and come back Sunday, and affordable.  We arent looking for some crazy nightlife type place.  I'd love Myrtle but I think its  just a bit too far of a drive.

While I must admit to a certain bias regarding eastern shore golf on the Delmarva, I never the less, suggest it as a locale.   Since you plan a May wedding, you will be there before the seasonal price increases.   The area has multiple rather nice golfing venues with restaurants and bars on various price levels.   Since you are not interested in "adult entertainment", I think it will adequately meet your needs.  There are several sources to arrange "stay and play" packages.

Ok, I'll be non objective here, but my course is near BWI (so maybe a 4 hour drive for you max) and we are 15 minutes from Maryland Live Casino, which would be the best area for hotels probably as well) if you're into that, and less than 30 minutes from Baltimore Inner Harbor or 35 to 45 minutes from Nationals Park.  One of them would be in town that weekend, they always have one home and one away.   While our course is nice, it in of itself isn't destination worthy, but there are a couple in the area that are (Renditions again about 30 minutes away from the hotel) and one or two others.

But if you are looking for a true golf destination, Ocean City is about 2.5 hours from here, so maybe 6 to 7 hours for you.  Lots of great courses there and some fun nightlife, but be warned the hotel and golf rates start gong up there in early May.

Atlantic City isn't a bad option either.

You should look at Warren, Pa up in the Allegheny mountains.  My dad has been taking yearly trips up there for as long as I can remember.  Some of his favorites are: Blueberry Hill, Jackson Valley, Kane Country Club and Hunter's Station.  I've heard good things about Conewango Valley and Cable Hollow too. The restaurants are decent enough, it's affordable, and it's centrally located to all the courses I mentioned.

This is pretty close, so you could arrange golf on both Friday and Sunday, you might think about Nemacolin Woodlands resort.  Two Pete Dye courses, lodging, dining, and probably very little "temptation".  I have no idea of the prices, but its worth a look.  Another option, a little further, is the Williamsburgh, VA area.  A significant number of good courses (including Kingsmill, where the LPGA plays every year), and its possibly a lot more budget-friendly, but I'd guess its closer to 6 or 7 hours driving.

For several years, my buds and I made an annual trip to a venue in New Market, Virginia called the Shenvalee.   It consisted of 3 nine hole golf courses, a rural motel (not fancy but clean) a nice restaurant and a neighborhood style bar.    It pretty much met our every need for a buddy trip and it was rather inexpensive.   Another rather important factor was upon arrival we parked our cars and did not start them again until it was time to leave.  That way we could have a few brews together and not worry about driving.

Haha not even worried about "temptation" both my dad and her dad would be there. We're all in 30's and over the going out and getting all banged up. Much rather relax and enjoy a weekend

There's Ogleby in Wheeling, and here in Ohio there's there's this 5 stars of golf package in Zanesville right up 70. You get The Virtues, which is usually rated the #1 course in the state and Eaglesticks which is also top 10.

We did my bachelor party in Vegas last year, so I guess I wanted something different from you. That being said, Turningstone in New York would probably be good. Something for everybody with a casino and whatnot, as well as a great golf course. You check it out.

Believe it or not, Frankfort KY has several stay and play courses....Duckers Lake and Longview are two that come to mind. They rent condos on the course for the weekend. That's not a bad drive from Pittsburgh.
