The way it's said here; "short but you should be used to hearing that"!

On a real bad putt that misses by a mile;

"WOW, I don't know how that stayed out"!

When you leave yourself a longer 2nd putt then you would like, my dad always says "there's a lot of chicken left on that bone."

Used to hear that a lot years ago. Old timer saying.

This is going to be one great par. Usually said by me, right after I hook it into the woods. Sometimes I make par, sometimes I make an other.

When a par is salvaged after some rather poor shots, it is called "a working man's par".   In and around Baltimore, its called a "Dundalk par".

I like to call pars of this particular variety "routine".

AKA "blue collar pars" in some parts

When a putt just misses or doesn't want to fall in the hole it's "the ball is afraid of the dark"

  • 4 months later...

I have heard 6 good ones over the years two of them from my late uncle!

1) do your drives always leak to the right like that when you are aiming straight down the pipe?!?

2) remember this putt is uphill/downhill with a little wiggle at the end, so don't leave it short!

3) that's your best drive all day unfortunately it end up two holes over!

4) what do you mean that is not the right green, it hole 8 right?!?

5) everyone likes a little tail but seriously dude that is the worse slice I have ever seen! You have got to be in the next county!!!

6) Just write down now a score of ten for this hole because that ball is long gone all the wrong direction!!!

When an errant drive goes thru the fairway to an adjacent one...

"Another Fairway hit!"    - and when I am the culprit, I often say " I liked that fairway so much I wanted to play it twice!"

When a bad shot ends with a good result:  Hey, they don't put pretty on the scorecard.

When a hard hit ball never gets more than a few inches off the ground;  That one probably raped a snake, yep that's a snake raper.

When a ball lands on the green but a long, long way from the hole:  Well, you're dancing, but its gonna be a long song with a rather ugly woman.

When asked for my advise;  Asking me is like Ray Charles telling Stevie Wonder how to get home.

And the classic:  It's called golf because all of the other 4 letter words were taken.

On a typical Sunday morning, when the wife heads to Mass and I to the golf course, I tell her:  I bet I see and hear more people praying than you do.

“Better hit another one to be safe/it's a hard hard game/that is weird .. the swing looked so good on that one/just pick it up, I will give you a triple”.And the worst of them all is after a horrendous day and you finally hit a good one.”That shot will make you come back again”.

Heard them all and a million more.I know they were all harmless comments. But some of these comments just totally destroyed my confidence for many rounds after

“I can't believe that didn't go in”

That can be used for any bad shot. Specifically for a bad putt though.

Or when you hit bad chip shot, you say, “go in”. Also can be used for any bad shot.

I heard a funny one on the putting green the other day. Dude hammered a putt way past the hole and his buddy says "man, I wish I could hit my driver that far"
