That one friend

I'm wondering if its just me or if everyone has that one friend that they golf like crap when they go together. I've been trending in a good direction posting lowest score after lowest score and then today I play a round with my friend who got me involved in golf and I play like crap. He's a 5 or so handicap and he always plays his worst rounds when we play so its not just me its him too. I don't know if its because I normally warm up on the range and we leave and he tells me the tee time is set for once we get there or if its just that we should not golf together.

Yep,  I have a friend that I get together and play with a few times a year.  I am, and he will agree, that I am a better golfer than him.   For some reason he has the ability to beat me often.   He just does stuff to get in my head and I don't play my best.  Have to learn to separate the game from the gamesmanship.

I have that friend. It's one of my teammates in my golf league. We're both very similar handicaps so we tend to get put out in the A group for matches. For some reason, whenever we paired up we played like crap. After about 4 crappy rounds paired up together, we finally broke through and kicked some major butt.

 

Over beers at the 19th, we confessed to each other that we both complained to our wives about our bad luck together each time the pairings come out.

I'm glad it's not just me and that a few others have the same thing. I lost 6 balls in one round Sunday and I haven't lost more than one ball in my last four rounds until Sunday.

I'm the same exact way. I had my best round yesterday morning, I was hitting everything great. Then we played league last night and I told him about my round before we started. Step up to the first tee, and top one down the middle of the fairway. I haven't done that in forever. Idk what it is haha.

Oh yeah. I think everyone has that "friend". On the other hand I also have that person that I play really well with. The other day it was just us two on the course, we played 9 in 52 minutes. We play "ready" golf (whoever is ready hits)

I have a teammate I always play well with too. He plays super fast and rides in a cart whilei walk so I just tell him to tee off first at all the holes and I'll catch up. He doesn't hit it very high or far but hits it straight and is a blast to play with. I think his tempo helps me dial it back a bit.

Oh yeah. Got a couple friends like that. Shoot 79 a few weeks ago, play with friends a couple days ago and shoot 93. Play again today and shoot 77. I don't know why that happens...

If we could play our pace, 2 hour or so rounds, I think we would play better. The second we slow down we both fall apart. I play solo and catch a double that was a head of me I play my best golf. I tend to start solo and end in a group of 3 or 4.

Thats pretty much every round for me. Today I started by myself picked up another around hole 3 then after the turn picked up 2 more. Finished the back 9 with a foursome. And it's usually the same 3 I pick up. We all play the same pace and similar style so it works out.

I think we all have someone like that.. it for me is a comfort level, I have know him sine we were early teens. when we are together we just play and we both want to beat each other so we both push. one of us will usually go backwards while the other plays great.. I have a 16 ish handicap he is a solid 18-20 but that goes out the window when we play.

I'm that guy for HulaRock when we play together hahaha. Somehow he's managed to ignore my game the last couple times we played.

The Guy I play with every week is this way.  We love playing together similar handicap similar shot shape, and together we can tear through a course walking in record time.  That being said I shoot a lot better and so does he when we don't play together, last year I noticed a 4-5 shot difference when I don't play a round with him, unfortunately this year I have played almost all my rounds with him and my Handicap is suffering as a result.

I play my best rounds with my dad and my worst with my best friend who I get to play about 8 rounds per year with. He's kinda the same way. I finally broke it last year and shot 74 or 75 with him. Now it's fine. Shoot mid 70s every time I play with him

Lol I wouldn't say I golf like crap but I visit a buddy in Wilmington nc so the Bermuda grass takes a round getting used to. I'm still semi new at golf so it amazes me the grass differences and how it affects your swing and club...my first time down there from

Jersey was an interesting trip.

I don't have that friend. My game doesn't change that much. But I think I am that guy for my stepdad. He calls me and tells me how well he is playing so I go visit and does nothing but struggle. I think he just tries too hard and it has just become a mental block for him now. I feel bad for him, but there is nothing I can do to change it.

There's a guy at our place like that. Talks constantly, loudly, about things no one wants to hear.

 

I am that guy for the pro that runs our TFT programs. He's a much better player than I am, but I don't care if he beats me, so I don't put any pressure on myself. As a result, I beat him far more frequently than I should. We love playing together, though.

 

My oldest daughter has become that guy to my dad. They're both about the same handicap, so it's not that big a surprise, but she keeps on beating him on his course.

I really don't have a friend, I play lousy with all the time.  I have a few opponents that I play, in our Monday night league, that I usually implode against. Can't put a finger on the reason, but tend to think I really don't like them that much. I put pressure on myself and my partner against them. The grip seems a little tighter. My partner is my best friend/almost brother. We have been best friends since before Little League, and now we are both 60. He is slightly better than I, but we seem for the most part to play well as a team. I must also say, there are a couple of local courses, that for some reason I rarely play well at. Not the opponents, not the courses, it's just me.
