Does anyone here have first hand experience with Shot Tracer? I wouldn't pay the subscription for maps but am very intrigued at the video analysis it'll provide by tracing my shots. Par 3s jump to mind as a wonderful way to show friends and family the awesome footage.

 

$7 for an app that may or may not worth is a little steep for me so I'm not ready to jump in head first until I hear from people I trust (fellow spies) how accurate the tracing really is. The app store has very limited reviews.

More of a gimmick than anything. Doesn't work that well and most times you have to manually do stuff to make it work

What jlukes said, it's very hit and miss getting it to work, I wouldnt waist my money

Is the Fox tracer basically a souped up version of this technology or do they use a combination of video and launch monitor?

Protracer is a much more souped up version of this. It uses a specialized camera and computer software. No launch monitor

I bought it a week or two ago, haven't used it once yet. Mostly I just thought it would look cool for posting stuff on Instagram or twitter.

 

I've wasted $7 on stuff way stupider than this though so no matter what I won't feel bad. Plus if I bring one extra beer with me to the course instead of buying one there it'll be paid for.

I did a lot of reading on the App Store reviews and there were quite a few people complaining about it not working, then they stated after they watched the tutorials and figured out how to actually use it, it works great. Just takes a little bit of practice.

I used it once or twice. It requires a tripod or extremely steady hand in order to provide the best results. Even still, there's a little manipulation required to get it to trace the shot exactly the way it happened. For $7 though, you're honestly getting quite a bit in terms of computer programming. I can't imagine it's that easy to code an app that can identify (what is typically) a white golf ball soaring through the air up to and over 300 yards. It definitely makes for some cool video to impress non-golfing friends and family with.

If you want one for free get the gottagolf app. All manual but it works. I don't care for the whole thing anyways but that particular one does work and doesn't cost $7

When I did my fitting for the Epic, a guy filmed my swing using this and Trackman. It was nice to see the ball flight like they show on TV. I bought it, but haven't had the chance to use it.

So I started a dialogue with Gotta Golf today through an app store review I posted. They're going to hear out some suggestions I have for the functionality and pricing structure through an expandable survey.

 

As compensation, they gave me a promo code for a 1 month subscription so I'll be sure to post a video once I get a chance to film at the range. So far, they're winning me over.

This was the app I was going to buy, but the monthly membership is dumb. I downloaded the free version and enjoyed it.

I gave it a quick shot and it seems to be WAY better than Shot Tracer by a large margin. I tried it on an existing video I had using the auto trace feature and it worked really well with zero user input. The ball disappeared behind my body so I'll have to go record better footage and try again.

 

I think when I post that, I'll start a separate thread with a mini review so they can get the PR they deserve.
