What Would They Play Now?

Morning Everyone -

Been doing some reading, as you may have read elsewhere about our forefathers. Namely, Arnie, Seve, Player, and Jack. Obviously times have changed and so has the equipment. I mean we have Lob wedges and collarless shirts now.

Brands like Dunlop, Slazenger, MacGregor have fallen off the map. I remember seeing all of those brands in the pro shop back in the late 90's. Wilson is still kicking, and getting a resurgence of a following.

I am talking in their prime what would they play today if they were out playing with "the young guns". So Arnie was a Wilson man, Seve was a mixture of Dunlop/Slazenger, Player was Dunlop, and Jack was MacGregor. So with only one of those brands really relevant right now. Which would they play?

This is just what I dreamt up.

Arnie

I think he is a Callaway guy, wearing Nike threads. He was very athletic looking in his younger days.

Seve

Srixon, I see him making a Z like the Matador he was with that magic.

Player

PXG, I just see him being the poster boy for this, the black knight and all.

Jack

This one was tough, but I'm going with Taylormade. His long bombs just fit the M1.

Feel free to throw up your thoughts. Pick some different players or whatever!

Fun thread

Annie did play Callaway and was friends with old Eli so I think that's a safe bet.

Seve - Mizuno beyond a doubt

Player - Titleist - classic and he'd be a Vokey Wedge guy for sure.

Nicklaus - would own his own brand.

Francis Ouimet - Not a pro but he'd probably play Wilson. Closed enough to the east coast.

Bob Jones - He's definitely a Callaway guy.

Harry Vardon - I can picture him also playing a Callaway.

Ted Ray - he would probably be a Taylor Made dude.

I think Rev nailed it, heck Jack single handedly kept Macgregor alive for years...makes sense that he would have just bought it.

If Arnie, Seve, Gary and Jack were on tour today, they would still be making a living via golf.    Given that any OEM would fashion clubs to their personal specifications, my guess would be that they would play the clubs the provided the best endorsement deal.  Players at their level, currently make more off the course than they do on the course.
