I find I can't hold it still enough to feel confident over the ball so I ground. But I try to pick it up then go back so the hands aren't behind the club head on the backswing

bobby Jones liked the soft wrist start. He liked the whip it could produce. I know the modern swing doesn't subscribe to this, but I think a little old and new are not improper. I am certainly no Adam Scott or Bobby Jones, but I start grounded and if that causes a little whip in a swing that I feel is fairly structured then so be it.

If it's good for the Golden Bear, then it's good enough for me.  YES, I hover the driver ... irons not so much.

I find that it creates less tension in the forearms & allows for a free flowing swing.  It's a swing trigger for me as well.  I will address it on the ground but when I'm ready to take it away, I start to hover it.

All my swings start on the deck. Then the driver takes off like a F-16 from an aircraft carrier. And sometimes my 3 wood, but I usually have it on a short tee and at most hit it level.

I've tried hovering my driver before and although I've sometimes hit some good shots doing it I think it builds too much tension in my swing prior to the start.
I've kind of done that with the rest of my clubs; maybe I should try it again this year?

What about you guys?

are you a grounder or hovererrrrr ??

I tend to hover my driver. The putter is slightly hovered behind the ball. The rest of my clubs tend to be grounded.

Call me Patrick Reed! 🙂

Just kidding - I generally ground everything except driver or a wood that I'm going to hit off of a tee.

Hover driver, used to ground it about 1 foot behind the ball to feel the low point well behind the ball. All other clubs are grounded, but trying to transition to carrying a bit of the club's weight at address to better setup to the ball and avoid extra wrist hinge vertically.

Does it help your game to ground your club or hover it before hitting a shot or drive? Curious to know your take on this.

Growing up I spent a lot of time copying the way Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman setup and swung. I was very much a hoverer of all clubs, but after years of studying and using other methods I got into a habit of grounding my clubs. There are a lot of benefits to hovering, and your post makes me think it would benefit me to go back to the hovering style using focus and repeation to I grain them again.

I hover everything but the putter: I’ve noticed my ball-striking has improved since I adopted this. (but my swing overall is much better)

My putter stroke starts with a slight forward press, so I ground it before.

Always grounders unite! haha Is that weird to always ground your club? I barely do it with my driver. Maybe my setup routine needs some adjustments.

I’m a grounder. I’ve tried hovering but never stuck with it long enough to get used to it with anything other than the putter.

I was intent on grounding my putter like Rickie Fowler a couple years ago and it worked ok for a month or two. Then came a 5 footer on my first hole in competition while hovering, it took 3 putts to get in the hole and Way too many on the front nine. I was doing it to relieve tension but it was adding tension.  I was back to grounding it on the back nine and will never hover again.

I hover everything.  Swing speed goes slightly up and centered impact increases.  It is less comfortable around the green and with the putter but comfort is just an excuse you use when you don't want to do something.

I ground all clubs. It's what I'm most comfortable with as it helps me steady myself before taking the club back.

I cannot hover with out grounding the putter first . I always ground the putter first then lift it some way before I putting

Wedges I do a bit of both depending on the shot

Irons/Driver and full swings , I take my grip with the club off the ground , I dont really consider that hovering .

I may waggle, regrip or milk the club then hold it steady behind the ball but technically I do not ground the club before set the club , so this really isnt hovering
