Taylormade P790 driving irons!

Recommended Posts

I'm for sure liking the looks of these better than the udi, all comes down to how they preform, would love to get my hands on one of these.

Yuck. Don't care for that look. It reminds me of the ugly new PXG irons (not to be confused with the sexy PXG driving iron)

The middle is the middle.

it's the SIZE of the middle that counts... it can be a dime or it can be larger than a dollar coin...

like I said - serious club for serious players that have no problem finding the middle every time..... seriously.

No, the middle is the middle. If you can find the middle. It is in the same location on pretty much every club.

These P-790's are not driving irons but rather a full set of new irons from Taylormade...in fact, there's even a 50* A-Wedge.

These are hollow forged distance irons in a 'tweener' clubhead size that will appeal to mid-handicappers as well as better players.

PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO 1-IRON OR 2-IRON  IN THE P-790 SET

Not announced for Retail with the P-790 iron set, but could be coming later on, so stay tuned.

It definitely exists on Tour, and for now, it is a 'Tour issue only' club...Below is a pic of the 790 UDI '2-iron'.

I understand the loft is 17*, which is clearly a driving iron's loft, so there is really no need for a 16* UDI 1-iron.

Due to the popularity of the original UDI's I do think TM will announce this club before Christmas time, but TM apparently wants to make it a completely separate announcement from the P-790 irons.  I also suspect the new 790 UDI may have a different stock shaft than the 790 irons.

those do look nice.  happy to see them include a 3iron; those seem to be going by the wayside since so many people have bagged hybrids

if someone gave me a set of those I'd probably play them...

Took about a year, but now have officially flipped my bag for the first time. Year before, I began inundating myself in golf knowledge and equipment. Learned how the swing path and club face work together, how to shape shots and have made great progress. Now I know exactly what I'm doing, and most often know why. So far I've seen my handicap drop significantly, (15-17 down to 5-8). Technically at this point, I'm a 5 handicap, but that was one score out of 5 (5, 18 hole rounds. I've played quite a bit of 9 hole rounds) and I believe I'm closer to an 8 realistically. But maybe I'll be lower and near a 5 this year with thMP-18e clubs in my bag fully updated and have more experience with each club.
Updated my driver and 3W shaft as well after getting them last year and I think that will be a game changer and lower my scores by hitting more fairways. Drastically improved my iron game with getting fitted and buying Mizuno MP-18 mixed set. Can shape my shots and get very consistent distances, so I'm pretty excited for this year. Wedge game improved quite a bit too and now have rounded out the SM6 set completely. Also really excited as I've been rolling the new Taylormade TP Black Copper Juno nicely in the basement, and getting very consistent rolls and forgiveness. Never have really been excited about a putter, but the black copper is sexy, and it performs.
Looking to get on simulators a few times this winter, heated driving range a few times, a big golf show to attend, Taylormade demo fitting, and plently of swinging and putting in the garage and basement. Looking forward to early spring and am optimistic for my best golf yet.

Trying to not get overly excited for Jan golf trip and hoping that mother nature doesn't deposit her first snowstorm on us in New England around my departure date.
