STUDque
So I'm thinking of ditching my 915. I've tweaked and tweaked and tweaked the settings and it still just doesn't feel right. I'm starting to think it's not the driver for me and I'm spying those turbulators on the Ping drivers. The G400 is well out of my price range but I would like to hear from people who use the G and/or G30. Is there a marked difference or can I save a few bucks and get the G30? revkev
The G30 did quite well in MGS Most Wanted Driver test s few years ago. I bag it with a custom shaft. When I went for a driver fitting last year my fitter wasn't able to find a realistic head/shaft combo that was worth paying money for including the G. Just be careful because there are three different heads. Make sure you are getting the one that fits you best. txgolfjunkie
G30 had better spin numbers than the G for me...as in the G spun ridiculously high for me. I hit the regular and LST in both models. I preferred the sound and feedback of the G30. Plus I imagine the G30 is cheaper than the G. Is there any real performance upgrades between the two models? I don't recall there was much difference. STUDque
Thanks for the helpful input. Based on reviews I've read, that's the sense I've gotten as well but wanted to confirm with people who gave the drivers a real college try. I think the Tour 65 stiff shaft will be for me. Now I just need to decide between the base and LS Tec models. bigbeec
I know this an older post... but thought I would weigh in. I play a G30 with stock stiff shaft. Neutral position. Is it long? Sure. But what I have noticed most is that even mis-hits remain comparatively long. Secondly, the big push/fade OB that used to sneak up on me during a round has been reigned in a bit with the G30. STUDque
I hit a G30 and G400 on a launch monitor yesterday. Didn't really get to warm up and I wasn't wearing the right shoes or a glove so I got pretty poor results. However, I did like the look, feel, and sound of both. Hardly a noticeable difference to be honest. The G400 has a smaller head that didn't quite fit my eye but others might find that appealing. One funny thing is that I didn't see any increase in club speed over my 915. Ping markets the heck out of those turbulators and the reviews I've read universally reported faster swing speeds. Maybe it was the shaft. Maybe I can generate a little more club speed with the midsize grips I play (these had standard). Maybe it's Maybelline.
