Ping G30 or G? (Or G400?)

STUDque

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking of ditching my 915. I've tweaked and tweaked and tweaked the settings and it still just doesn't feel right. I'm starting to think it's not the driver for me and I'm spying those turbulators on the Ping drivers.

The G400 is well out of my price range but I would like to hear from people who use the G and/or G30. Is there a marked difference or can I save a few bucks and get the G30?

The G30 did quite well in MGS Most Wanted Driver test s few years ago. I bag it with a custom shaft. When I went for a driver fitting last year my fitter wasn't able to find a realistic head/shaft combo that was worth paying money for including the G.

Just be careful because there are three different heads. Make sure you are getting the one that fits you best.

Good luck

G30 was a great driver for me! I went through a G fitting when I had the G30 and didn't see any additional benefits. Sound is very different, but I actually liked it!

G30 had better spin numbers than the G for me...as in the G spun ridiculously high for me. I hit the regular and LST in both models. I preferred the sound and feedback of the G30. Plus I imagine the G30 is cheaper than the G. Is there any real performance upgrades between the two models? I don't recall there was much difference.

Thanks for the helpful input. Based on reviews I've read, that's the sense I've gotten as well but wanted to confirm with people who gave the drivers a real college try.

I think the Tour 65 stiff shaft will be for me. Now I just need to decide between the base and LS Tec models.

I'm a pretty high spin guy and I was fitted into the G30 with the Tour shaft. I later put an Xphlexxx Agera shaft in it to reduce spin more and that thing came alive!!! Tour's not bad, though.

They're not going to have these since they're older drivers. I have to do my best to buy on a budget so I get previous models.

I went from the i25/stiff to the G LS tec with the tour 65 stiff shaft. Great reduction in spin and increase in forgiveness. Longer too. When I'm having a good day at the tee, it's a weapon.

Yeah. My 3 wood is the i25 and it stings the s* out of the ball. I love how it flies like a bullet. Last Saturday I hit one 270 into the wind and surprised myself big-time.

I'll look into it. Any stores like that are at least an hour away so maybe I'll do some research to decide which would be the best.

Why?

Mine was a demo - I paid 200 during the off season. That was just before the G came out. I'd expect that you could find a very good G30 out there for 150. It's now two models old.

I know this an older post... but thought I would weigh in. I play a G30 with stock stiff shaft. Neutral position. Is it long? Sure. But what I have noticed most is that even mis-hits remain comparatively long. Secondly, the big push/fade OB that used to sneak up on me during a round has been reigned in a bit with the G30.

I hit a G30 and G400 on a launch monitor yesterday. Didn't really get to warm up and I wasn't wearing the right shoes or a glove so I got pretty poor results. However, I did like the look, feel, and sound of both. Hardly a noticeable difference to be honest. The G400 has a smaller head that didn't quite fit my eye but others might find that appealing.

One funny thing is that I didn't see any increase in club speed over my 915. Ping markets the heck out of those turbulators and the reviews I've read universally reported faster swing speeds. Maybe it was the shaft. Maybe I can generate a little more club speed with the midsize grips I play (these had standard). Maybe it's Maybelline.

That looks sooo nice with the blue tint. I think you should go for the G30 as there doesn't seem to be a huge difference when you step up to the G. The spin numbers seem to be lower with the 30 as well.

I know I may be late to the game but I just finalized a deal on a G30 LS Tech on eBay. It's got a pretty good shaft so I'm hoping I find more fairways.

Driving accuracy has always been my weakness. When I miss, oh boy do I miss big.

I bought a “G” driver maybe a month ago. The older drivers were being discounted so I hit a few balls into the net and brought her home. I had an older Ping i20 that I liked and gave it to a LH friend of mine. After this time I've come to the conclusionI should have kept the i20 I believe it is slightly longer than the Ping G or at least the same.

I have the i25 3-wood and hybrid. They sting the crap out of the ball and I love the feel. I may swap the hybrid out for a stiffer shaft but don't see myself changing the 3 wood anytime soon. I looked at the driver too but I'm really needing the forgiveness offered by the G series.
