Chicks dig the long ball

So boys and girls .. I recently was fit for a driver shaft. I had bought the Taylormade 10.5 set to 8.5 460 M1 already, but the shaft was too light and too flimsy for me. I was fit for a Motore Speeder Tour Spec 6.2 VC X Stiff.

I hit it for a couple weeks and was super inconsistent with it. Spinning the Ball way too much and way far offline. So I decided to go back to my fitter and get a trackman evaluation.

We hit a few balls, and he comes in with a Taylormade 8.5 standard loft 440 M1. He puts in a AD Tour BB7-X shaft and I start killing balls hitting them on the middle of the face.

I attached some of the trackman report and you'll see I hit a few 440 yards !

Just wanted to see if anyone else has used this shaft or dropped to a smaller head and saw better numbers and better feel? What you guys think of the numbers, and what are yours ?!

I don't see a 440 in the list... 340 you mean? 338?

Looks like the spin is pretty high, for the most part, and your smash factor is low.

Decreasing spin and increasing smash would really help.

Nice Speed lower the spin and up the Smash Factor and 330 would be an average drive.

... More than chicks dig the long ball! :P I watch my 26yr old son (basically a beginner) carry it 290-300 and it is just so jaw dropping to watch. I play to a + and when I am in a groove I have a mastery of iron play, short game and putting, but 300+ is just not in my arsenal and never was. As much as people like it when I hole out a chip or hit bunker shot to a few inches it just doesn't have the impact of carrying a 270yd bunker on a dogleg of the fairway that the rest of us are laying up to or trying to hit around. I will get the "wow, great shot" comment but never the OH my GAWD! the 300+ yd drives produce.

... Of course all of us can either sharpen our iron play, short game and putting or at least envision doing it. However most of us cannot carry it 290 and know we never will so I guess that is why it is so impressive, especially if those drives end up in the fairway consistently.

I can only dream of hitting a ball that far!!! that's just brilliant.

My maximum club speed with driver is 105mph but probably swing it about 100mph just so I don`t come out of my socks!!

I know I need to decrease the spin and that DJ and Day spin it around 2200 rpms- but 300 yard drives and a .1 lower smash factor than some of the pros isn't the worst thing.

Always room for improvement of course.

Of all the things, that smash being in the 1.3s and right at 1.4 is killing the distance. If you could get a squarer strike, first and foremost, it would make the biggest difference. The only reason I'm poking drives out over 300 these days is because my smash is right around 1.50 every time. Only swinging 109... Makes a HUGE difference.

Best of luck to u.

I'm in the same boat except the plus handicap part. My son carries it in the 300 range while playing a handful of times a year. He's never beaten me.

You need that distance to play on tour. The rest of us need to find other ways to score and enjoy the game.

Keep banging them out there.

I heard the 2017 440 M1 was surprisingly forgiving, wonder what your ball speed and smash would be in the 460 m1.

Numbers are about the same as yours, I've only tried the tour ad di 7x, but we did not get along. Too squirly under the hands.

Though the hybrid shafts are my favorite.

Those are pretty good numbers regardless of them not matching with "ideals"

I say take it out and demo on the course. That's the best input.

... As much as I appreciate modern equipment, and I really do, learning to play with unforgiving clubs and a ball that not only curved all over the place but would get cut open and ruined with a too aggressive swing, might have been a blessing in disguise. We had to learn to control the ball and our swings first, then learn how to hit it farther second.

... Today the reverse is true. You can start out just bombing the modern driver/shaft/ball combo then learn to control it later. While that works for younger players that really stick with it, I think dialing it down and learning control is much harder than dialing it up and hitting it farther. I see my son outdrive me by 30 yds or more but then miss the green, hit a poor chip and 3 putt. Thankfully he is driven to play well and is putting in the work to get better but but takes years to really get better at this wonderful game.

I currently own the 460 M1 - with my Motore Speeder 6.2 shaft my ball speed was 167 average and 1.41 average smash. So both increased with the 440 head and different shaft.
