Hurricane Harvey Relief

First off, prayers up to all of you spies in the areas or have family/friends that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.  I hope that you all are well and able to recover quickly from any damages that have occurred.

 

I am not sure if this is the right place to do this or not---but I really feel like being able to do something, I/we should do something.  Though I would like to be able to personally go to Texas and help, I am not sure that is in the cards for me right now.  My family and I will be donating both time and money to both the American Red Cross and Samaritan's Purse who will be collecting supplies and taking volunteers to go to Texas to help in the relief efforts.  These organizations can be reached here: https://spvolunteernetwork.samaritanspurse.org/hurricane-harvey-reponse/

In addition, one of my best friends lives in Houston.  Thankfully she is fine and very fortunate not to have lost anything.  Her church has begun to raise funds to buy supplies and support those in the Houston area.  I know 100% of those funds will go directly to the relief efforts in their community.  I have donated using this link: http://www.neartownchurch.org/give/

 

Fellow spies, I am asking you all to please support in any way that you can.

Not sure yet nothing is etched in stone but a local business owner here has a tractor trailer and is filling it with relief supplies. I am on vacation next week and I have volunteered to drive it down if needed as long as I can be back by Sept 10 th.

We are doing a big drive at our church starting this weekend. It's through our church body. I would encourage everyone that consider something. Every little bit helps.

We are all in this together and I know there are a ton of good guys on here.  If I can't get down there I at least want to support those people as much as possible.

As someone that is right in the middle of this storm I can tell you anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated!!

 

We had to leave our home Monday morning due to mandatory evacuation orders issued because of a over 40 inches of rain and a rapidly rising river.

 

We were fortunate enough to have some really good friends that took us in and we didn't have to go to a mass shelter. Right now the river is still rising and not expected to crest until late Friday then slowly drop to a level where we can return to our neighborhood to see if we even have a home left.

 

We are lucky, we left on our own...drove our cars filled with clothes and personal items to our friends and we are sleeping in comfortable beds.....but thousands were rescued by boat or walked out in wast deep water carrying small children. These are the people that need your help.

 

I've spent the last 3 days doing volunteer work at one of the mass shelters, trying to help people that I know for sure lost everything.

 

It's a horrible situation, billions of dollars in damage, areas where homes will be flooded for an estimated 2-3 months!! This has changed me forever for sure.

 

From the bottom of my heart....thank you for anything you can contribute.

Ok thanks--- Like I said I do not know anything yet will know by Friday---- I know a lot of the dump truck companies on the FEMA plan are already sending trucks down under FEMA direction. I got offered a job yesterday and several messages on the phone. If I do this it will only be a down and unload and back up strictly volunteer. I did run a dump truck for a company in NO after Katrina for about 3 weeks and made good money but did not like being away from my wife and home that long. In fact that company e mailed me 3 times yesterday. In fact one of the companies that pulls for us some has already sent drivers down and their driver supervisor was actually driving yesterday at the shredder where I go everyday. He told me they had already sent 20 trucks down wanted to know if I wanted to jump on one of theirs and go?

My brother is a volunteer first responder (EMT and Fire) and left two days ago to go down and assist for a month. Big props to his employer for allowing him not only to take a month and assist but also to pay him as well while he is away. We have a fund drive at work that the company has pledged to match dollar for dollar to aid in the recovery. Having lived through Sandy I can somewhat relate to the people in the Houston area.

I donated through JJ Watt's fundraiser. I'll never donate via Red Cross because they're the most corrupt "charity" organization out there outside of The Wounded Warrior project. The Red Cross takes monies donated for specific purposes and redirects it and is too heavy with executive salaries. No thanks. I donated through someone that cares for the people and makes sure the people hurting get what they need

My daughters kindergarten class was taking up supplies and donations and adopting another kindergarten class in Huston. We help the best we could.
