Peaksy68
Nigl Gartling Gruner Veltiner. Crisp, spicy but fleshy white from Austria. Grabbed it for a steal from one of the biggest chain wine retailers. Went a treat with fried Calamari. Disappointed I didn't clean out all the remaining stock when I picked it up. For those who haven't heard of it, Gruner Veltiner is an aromatic white, with some similarities to Riesling, with flavours moving into apple and pear rather than citrus. 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy
Headhammer
I'm sorry to have left this thread unattended for so long, but I was a on a bunch of medication that restricted my alcohol intake. Now off all meds, I'm back to enjoying my grape juice again! Wine: Campofiorin Winery: Masi Price: $15.99 If you like Italian red wines, specifically Amarones, then this wine if for you. Its big, bold, rustic and for a cheap wine has a 10-year aging potential. It uses a similar wine making process to Amaraones, but at a fraction of the cost. Went great with our steaks and pairs well with red sauces and game. Headhammer
Wine: Dragon's Tooth Winery: Trefethen Price: $45 Dragon's Tooth has been a top recommendation on Wine Spectator for a few years now, but was never able to source it locally. Found a little hole in the wall liquor store that had 4 bottles so I bought them all. This is a red blend, which tend to be very smooth wines, but this one has quite a bite (pun intended). There's not much of a bouquet and the dominant flavor is tart cherries, minerals & graphite with lots of tannins leading to a strong drying finish. Not blown away by this wine, but perhaps with a few more years of age it will mellow. Jbmullin
Bought a case Napa valley red wine from Costco last year to take to a big family thanksgiving worked out to about 6.50 a bottle. Wife and I celebrated her 40th in Napa and toured the wine train and since have always been on the look out for Napa wines. We sampled a few bottles of wines in the 100-125 range and they were good, not great. Like most at 6.50 a bottle I was not expecting much but it was amazing, went back a couple days later and they were sold out and not expecting more as it was some lot sale or pallet sale or something . I typically target wines that are priced in the 18-30 dollar. sure are- found an amazing Red for under $6 at a superstore - yes you might laugh at the price but the beverage manager told me he sells 10 cases of this to one of his next most popular wine. bens197
Made it to the Bay Area last month with my family. We spent a Sunday in Napa with my brothers and their wives, our parents as well as my daughter and nephew. Coming from Upstate / Western, NY we are blessed with the finger lakes. This region (finger lakes) is one of the most beautiful destinations in our country. The wine specialties are very unique and feature Rieslings as the premier white and Cabernet Franc as the feature red. Although the NYS views are gorgeous, Napa wines are second to none in my personal opinion; they cater to a very specific demographic in price and quality.
