Mixed Sets

I just finished building a new set (update coming to WITB soon) and was curious as to how many of us out there do a mixed bag.

By mixed bag I mainly mean irons not so much brand loyalty throughout the bag. For example titleist mb/cb or ap1 and ap2 or a mizuno mix.

I ended up pulling the trigger on a 5-pw of mizuno mp25 and really wanted a 4 iron. Unfortunately I couldn't find one anywhere so I went with a cobra forged tec. It has a similar boxyish shape and although a little chunkier is very similar and doesn't mess with my head when setting up for a shot.

Or even are there ppl out there who have a dream mixed set that may be across brands?

Some rounds I'd be playing with 8 clubs in the bag and none are in the same serie. Sometimes I'd carry the same "number or loft" club but in reality it goes up to 10-12 yards difference. I hit adam 5 hy at 180 carry but the same loft Taylormade would carry 192 avg. A mp14 9i carry the same as my apex gap wedge but produce more ball flight.

Look at my signature and that is only 5 different brands right now. I have in the past carried 8 different brands in one whack. I just roll with whatever works for me at the time. I am not really brand loyal unless it is old Macgregor irons and persimmon Toney Penna woods

I've got a Srixon 565 4-5 and 765 6-P, so that's pretty standard, but then go Cleveland 50, Vokey 56 and 60, Callaway driver and 3 wood and an old V Steel 5 wood that I refuse to replace

I suppose mine is a mixed bag, albeit, my iron/hybrids are the same manufacturer but different series. Matby hybrids and irons, SCOR wedges, Mizuno driver and woods and Yes! putter. Soon enough I'll have a Cleveland S wedge in there as well.

While I played lots of brands, I don't split my core iron set. Main reason is that I don't think a lot of club series are setup to do that anymore. Most people replace the long clubs with hybrids instead of other irons so sets are starting at mid irons. The most recent push for this would be the new mizuno's where they seem to be marketing and setting up the clubs to play more forgiving long irons and more players clubs at the low end. Another reason I don't think this approach is taken very often is the increase in specialty wedges which eliminates the need for non wedge manufacturers to make the mixed iron sets.
