Golf balls and weather

So for those of you in the colder climates do you switch to a lower compression ball went it starts getting cold? As an FYI we've played as late as late November here in northwest Ohio (temps then are generally around 40-45)

I will switch to lower compression after GHIN shuts down on Nov 15.  We can has a dusting of snow by then, but usually it's just cold...  30's and 40's.  When the ground freezes, it doesn't matter what ball you play; nothing stops on the green so we play bump 'n run.  We do get quite a bit of roll in the fairways though.   ;)

I'm technically in an arid climate (high desert) in CO. So unless there is snow on the ground we tee it up year round. That said, I snag a big case of hand warmers at the beginning of the cold season. On cold days I always put 2 balls in play; keep one in my trouser pocket with a hand warmer and switch it out after every hole. Using that system, I've played 100 compression pellets in below freezing temps without any noticeable performance loss.

@DLK

That's a really good tip. I'm gonna steal that one for my cold rounds. The hard balls is always the worst part of cold golf.

This, but I don't use the hand warmers.  Make sure to keep your golf balls inside where the ambient temp is 70's rather than in a cold garage or your car.  Then just keep one in your pocket and rotate every hole.  It takes several hours for the core of a golf ball to get cold enough to see a distance loss.

I also play with a cart cover and a sunflower heater in the cart so it's nice and toasty in there.  So no balls are getting cold during cold rounds.

We don't really get lengthy cold snaps in the Houston area...might get below 40 for a few days at a time a few times a year.....but during those days I still manage to play, but I don't really worry about changing balls.
