The bartender is a great employee that has served me a beer or two in the last year. Guy comes to the bar and asks for a water and the bar tenders name. PING Apologist #9
Happy stuff to report... Finally finished off a huge and intense 3-week long upgrade to the County Sheriff radio-communications network Friday. It was a rough one for me and took every last ounce of brain power and perseverance to pull it off. I'm glad it's over..whew! Received a long-awaited but very generous bonus that'll take a lot of financial pressure off and also allow the next "happy" things. Going out of town to visit family in Cali for Thanksgiving this year. This will be the first Thanksgiving in nearly 15-years that we've ever travelled out of the area (first for both kids) and also will be one that I haven't done all the cooking in at least that long. Thanksgiving day also happens to be my daughter's 13th birthday...though maybe I should stick this in the rant thread... The day after Thanksgiving, my sister's family and all of us will zip due South and hit Disneyland!!! Kids are totally stoked as am I. I'd love a new Tag watch or a shiny new set of irons, but this trip will be well worth the sacrifice of those selfish things. He just turned 18 and now has won twice, both times beating the same guy (a mate of mine) in the final. After just scraping into the semifinals he went through to the final 1 up. Today's final he won 6 and 5, a stunning effort given he finished his final high school exams this week. I'm finishing off a 5 year stint as junior coordinator on a high note. TheWahoo
Speaking of credit cards, typically every month I get at least one "you're pre-approved" credit card offer and I just throw them away. However, I just got an offer for a PGA TOUR Rewards Mastercard. It suggests that I would enjoy "Exclusive access to TPC golf courses" along with other benefits including tickets to the PGA Tour event of my choice. Anyone here have one of these cards and how do they work? I have a bud that puts just about all of his purchases on his credit card and then immediately pays them off so he can get points for airline tickets. Would such work well for a PGA Tour card? Hotels want a swipe to cover your expenses when you register. I don't understand how you can do the things that you do--go the places you go--without a credit card. And if you walk around with a fat wad of Benjis instead (you still can't rent a car), that could be a disaster waiting to happen. Fortunately, I have reached the age where such is a bit easier as the wife and I are not planning any major purchases at our ages. That fact that we never had the expense of raising children made things a bit easier as well. However, I do not carry a debit card because it makes impulse purchases too darn easy. But we do maintain a credit card account for emergencies and scenarios like Nifty described.
