Intelligence, knowledge, and wisdom are three completely different things.

On the whole, though, I would call college a very worthwhile experience.

I do not disagree with you that college is a very worthwhile experience.    As a parent, if one's child desires a college education, one should support their efforts to the extent of their means.  On the other hand, if their child perceives that they would rather attend a trade school or enter an apprenticeship program for a chosen profession, those efforts should be supported to the same extent.

First I want to thank all those who serve and have served for our country.  Sunday is Veterans day, do something nice for a Veteran.  They were willing to pay the ultimate price so we could be where we are today.   Then make sure to thank your lucky stars there are still Men and Women willing to pick up where they left off.

I’m in the same college choosing stage as a few others. She has been accepted to Ferris state, 14 hours away, but my family is 2 hours from there and my in-laws live 20 minutes from the campus. We are still hoping to hear from Charelston Southern, much closer to home, and warmer.

Charleston Southern is a great place!  Good luck to her, and enjoy the college chase!

That reminds me of my father.  He was drafted and was a couple of barracks down from Elvis.  Then a year after getting out was called back to "teach". He always tells people he was drafted twice.

There are few Aussie's that could enlighten us on University -vs- Trades.  They have done a great job helping youth determine and realize their potential.   Not all belong in College.  That is not saying they are not smart enough either.  I sit on a board for STEM locally and all industry partners say the same thing.  "Where are the trades?  There is no one to hire."

We got to book a room at Portage Pointe resort in Michigan for the end of July next year. A bunch of our friends went this year but we couldn't make it. It's going to be a beautiful lake vacation and our daughter who will be 4 months old at that point. Not to mention its 10 minutes south of Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club. It's been on my bucket list for a while so now I'll get to play both of the courses there, while enjoying our first family of 3 vacation.

something to look forward to as winter sets in here.

Happy stuff to report...

Finally finished off a huge and intense 3-week long upgrade to the County Sheriff radio-communications network Friday. It was a rough one for me and took every last ounce of brain power and perseverance to pull it off. I'm glad it's over..whew!😌

Received a long-awaited but very generous bonus that'll take a lot of financial pressure off and also allow the next "happy" things.🤑

Going out of town to visit family in Cali for Thanksgiving this year. This will be the first Thanksgiving in nearly 15-years that we've ever travelled out of the area (first for both kids) and also will be one that I haven't done all the cooking in at least that long.🍗🍷🍺🥃

Thanksgiving day also happens to be my daughter's 13th birthday...though maybe I should stick this in the rant thread...😜

The day after Thanksgiving, my sister's family and all of us will zip due South and hit Disneyland!!! Kids are totally stoked as am I. I'd love a new Tag watch or a shiny new set of irons, but this trip will be well worth the sacrifice of those selfish things. I got a bit misty telling the brats our plans and am totally happy that I have the means to pull this off for them.😎

In all my years running casinos I have rarely hit the point of dealing with a patron that have had to get physical. Tonight was an exception.

We had a concert at the property that I was able to make sure was going well. Had dinner and decided after dinner to enjoy a beer at one of our bars. The bartender is a great employee that has served me a beer or two in the last year.

Guy comes to the bar and asks for a water and the bar tenders name. She says here is your water at he gets p!ssed off. Asks for a manager and tells her to buy a personality.

I tell him to relax and he tells me to mind my own F’in business. I picked up my phone to call security and he lunged at me with a weak right. It did not end well for him and he is under arrest and needs some medical attention.

Not trying to pat myself on the back but sometimes people need to do what is right. This guy was stalking a 21 year old woman and God knows what else. He was a damn creep and needed to leave the property. Unfortunately for him he left in handcuffs after his weak punch at me.

What's worse than a guy looking to be an ******* in a place where people are gathered to have a good time?

I feel grateful that in all of my once frequent trips to Nevada, i never ran into an ******* like you had to deal with.

While none of us glorify violence, I can't see where you could have done anything but what you did.

I have always been constrained to keep my hands to myself because of my background, but you had no choice.

We’ve started packing a little bit here and there for our move. I came across an album in our bookshelves, and this pic was in the album. It’s my wife and I at our engagement party! 18 years ago... As she said when she posted it on FB, “We were just babies.” I was 32, she 25. Great pic on a VERY happy night for us.

One of "my" juniors won our club championship today. He just turned 18 and now has won twice, both times beating the same guy (a mate of mine) in the final. After just scraping into the semifinals he went through to the final 1 up. Today's final he won 6 and 5, a stunning effort given he finished his final high school exams this week.

I'm finishing off a 5 year stint as junior coordinator on a high note.

Another happy note, one of my clubs former juniors is 2 shots off the lead at the European Tour Q School. I can't claim any credit for him but it's great to see him doing well.

How do you afford all the college football games you go? And play golf as well? Those ND tickets aren’t cheap at all.Last I checked they were all $250 plus for almost every game

Speaking of credit cards, typically every month I get at least one "you're pre-approved" credit card offer and I just throw them away.  However, I just got an offer for a PGA TOUR Rewards Mastercard.  It suggests that I would enjoy "Exclusive access to TPC golf courses" along with other benefits including tickets to the PGA Tour event of my choice.   Anyone here have one of these cards and how do they work?

I have a bud that puts just about all of his purchases on his credit card and then immediately pays them off so he can get points for airline tickets.   Would such work well for a PGA Tour card?

You can't rent a car without a credit card.

Hotels want a swipe to cover your expenses when you register.

I don't understand how you can do the things that you do--go the places you go--without a credit card.

And if you walk around with a fat wad of Benjis instead (you still can't rent a car),

that could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Rather than walk around with a fat wad of Benjis,

I find it a lot safer to walk around with my cards and a fat wad of fives

for porters, doormen, etc.

No interest if you pay the credit card bills when they come.

I certainly understand your thinking.  Fortunately, I have reached the age where such is a bit easier as the wife and I are not planning any major purchases at our ages.   That fact that we never had the expense of raising children made things a bit easier as well.   However, I do not carry a debit card because it makes impulse purchases too darn easy.   But we do maintain a credit card account for emergencies and scenarios like Nifty described.
