I'm confused by this topic. As long as the combined amount doesn't move you into a new bracket why would it matter? Actually, even if it did push you into a new bracket why would it matter? Wouldn't the portion in the old bracket be taxed at that rate and the portion in the new bracket be taxed at the new rate?
Isn't 35% of 10 grand (for example) the same $3500 as 10 different $1000 checks all in the same 35% bracket?
I'm not being snarky at all, can someone explain if I have this wrong?

I’m guessing because it’s probably getting put in as a bonus so that gets hit differently.

I guess that could matter if someone was an officer or owner so took very little "income" and the majority of their pay was dividend or distribution but it seems like if you're cashing in PTO you probably have a significant amount of w2 wage pay. I think it would just be more income no matter what it's called, wouldn't it?

I would think so but i guess it depends on how it gets treated by the company. I know I get hit hard on my pay check in March when we get our annual bonus and I’m not getting bumped up a tax bracket

You know, now that you say that I remember that my company's software withholds at a higher bracket on my quarterly commissions as well. Fsr it annualizes every check we get as if that were now a weekly salary then projects the bracket that would put us in if the quarterly amount were going to show up every week and withholds at that higher projected bracket. It's been doing it for so long I forgot about it. I usually have to change my filing status to "exempt" for the last couple months so I don't drastically over pay. I thought it was just our computer processor being stupid but sounds like this may be more universal than I realized

Honestly, with as complicated as our current tax laws are, I'm surprised there is anyone - CPA or otherwise, who understands any of it.

My last check, pay wise, will be only for a week, which is half, since we are bi-weekly, and I believe they are still going to be sucking health insurance out of my check, which will take a massive amount of my one week of last pay.  Adding on the 160 hours of sick time and combining it won't matter all that much in this scenario.

Just finished playing 18 holes of computer golf with Kirke (who's five, almost six). We're playing with Xbox controllers. And he's on the easier difficulty, I'm on normal.
And he just annihilated me.
IMG_20181220_191524.jpeg
He shot a 10-under 62. He had a clean card going until he bogeyed 17, which made him cry. But he regained his composure to birdie 18.
Here's the stats from the round:
IMG_20181220_191608.jpeg
Looks like it's time to turn the difficulty level up on him. Have to do it in the game; once he starts beating me on the course, I can't turn the level up there :-)

I know he’s only 5 but you need to try to get in his head a little bit. Maybe start by telling him there’s no Santa or threaten an early bed time. Gotta find a way to get the win.

Yes exactly this.  The majority of my pay is commissions.  And most are earned in a 3 month stretch.  My checks during those times are hit at a much higher tax rate than normal checks.   It can also affect your 401k deduction.  Which isnt the worst thing.

I don't change my status often if at all, knowing I'll get it back in February in form of tax refund.   And that is a low time of year so, it makes up for no commisson checks then.

I'm not only happy, I'm pumped like a beagle hound in a rabbit den about my son graduating  Infantry school at Fort Benning, Ga.  I have been supporting a military group forum helping families who are not familiar with the terms used in the Army.  It's greek to most of them and I'm fortunate through my experience, to be able to help them through this journey supporting their soldiers.
I recently experienced one of the most amazing and heart tugging experiences I have ever been blessed with.   I joined four other fathers who fought in foreign wars as we were given the opportunity to pin the blue Infantry Cord on our sons! Our sons were called up front and center for this special once in a lifetime opportunity.  I get chill bumps thinking about it!
In the last pic, my wife caught me in a moment of emotion as I was walking back to the grandstand.

What a moment OG. So glad you shared it with us.  Does he get to spend the Holiday with you before going to LA!

Merry Christmas to you and and Kelly Bo.

Thanks Rob!  He won't be home for Christmas as he is already at Ft Pope however he gets to come home Dec 29th - 4th.  He also gets to drive his car back so he will have his wheels with him which is essential at that Post.   Merry Christmas back at ya good buddy!

5 days after surgery.....I drove to the club for some Christmas cheer with my friends even though I could not yet play. Brought homemade cookies for the bartender and waitresses. Eyes still a little blurry on close up reading but rest seems good. Bruises have subsided.
