Setting cabinets, running plumbing, removing a half wall. Flooring through entire first floor all new. I've been"helping" then every weekend since January 6th. Morning till night. And some week nights as well. Almost done. A little birdie told me they were going to buy my a Dicks gift card. YEAH, I have several ideas where that can go. Now I just have to wait, and act surprise. Almost bought a (new to me putter) it was an Odyssey 1 works in perfect condition including the grip for just over $100. Unfortunately it was too short. I tell them to run it again and same result. A manager comes over, runs it and says she is sorry but the card is denied. A twenty something girl behind me smiles and says "Please let me pay for your meal". I see the look on her face like I am a sad old man and can't afford to buy my meal and she wants to be kind. I tell her thanks, but the card should go thru. The Mgr says have your meal then we can try the CC and if it doesn't go thru again "don't worry about it". I get a text alert from my CC company about potential fraud at Sweet Tomato's ($10? Really?!?) and let them know it is a valid charge. I go back to pay and ... ready for this? ... the girl behind me had already paid for my meal anyway. So I find her and give her a $20 to pay her back for mine and hers and she says "not necessary" of course. I said acts of kindness like hers is worth way more than $20 and if she didn't take it I was gonna give her a $50 bill I held out ready to drop on her table. She saw I was indeed not destitute and accepted the $20. I was just so happy to see a much maligned millennial performing a random act of kindness.
