Kenny B
I have never broken a club, but I have had 2 club heads come off, both at the range. One was a driver when I was deciding if I wanted to play this game 26 years ago; a Redbird that the pro shop gave me to hit with a bucket of balls. The other was a brand new SCOR wedge just as they were going out of business. There was very little epoxy. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

hckymeyer
I've had epoxy fail, but I don't consider that a broken club. I bent the shaft on my 50 degree wedge, but it's because I hit a tree root on my swing. As for breaking/throwing a club in anger....never. I play with a guy that will break a few each year and throws them quite often. The GM of my club also needs to buy wedge shafts by the gross they go over his knee so often. My thoughts on breaking clubs... 1. You look like a child throwing a tantrum, it's a bad shot. Get over it. 2. Instead of breaking the club why not rip a $100 bill in half. It's the same thing throwing money away 3. This isn't the PGA tour and you aren't playing for millions and most important 4. We aren't good enough at golf to get that upset over a bad shot. Berg Ryman
The only club I've ever had break on me was an old Callaway X2Hot Pro FW. Wasn't from anger, just a freak break right near the hosel. I don't throw clubs, I may slam one back in the bag but I'm more likely to hit a ball into the woods or into the water after a bad hole than take it out on the clubs. Mike Z
There are demons that can live inside the shaft of a golf club. Those demons can have a profound negative effect on one's golf game. When they do, the only remedy is to let the demons out by opening the shaft. I've had to perform one demon letting this year. Didn't want to, but eventually it became compulsory. Badfish
In 30 years playing I have only had 1 club break on me. It was a Big Bertha Warbird putter with a graphite shaft. This for sure. I wish for myself that I could keep this mentality through the whole round. For me, This is what I strive to do every round, but it's very hard some times. This is a really hard habit to break, I've done better the last couple years but sometimes I lose it, not as much as I used to, but it still happens on occasion. I don't use this as an excuse, but when I was growing up playing sports, I used to be around a lot of my uncle and brothers and cousins, and there was around a lot of anger in those days, tempers flared, and things were broken, this is what I saw whether I was playing, or just watching, it was what I considered to be normal, as an adult it has become really hard to not be like that, I've struggled with it for 30 years, so it's not an easy task, but breaking old habits never is.
