Badfish
In 30 years playing I have only had 1 club break on me. It was a Big Bertha Warbird putter with a graphite shaft. I slid my wedge in to my bag and it caught the bend in the putter shaft and cracked it. Sent it to Callaway, and they replaced it with a steel shaft for free. Kor.A.Door
I've had epoxy fail, but I don't consider that a broken club. I bent the shaft on my 50 degree wedge, but it's because I hit a tree root on my swing. As for breaking/throwing a club in anger....never. I play with a guy that will break a few each year and throws them quite often. The GM of my club also needs to buy wedge shafts by the gross they go over his knee so often. My thoughts on breaking clubs... 1. You look like a child throwing a tantrum, it's a bad shot. Get over it. 2. Instead of breaking the club why not rip a $100 bill in half. It's the same thing throwing money away 3. This isn't the PGA tour and you aren't playing for millions and most important 4. We aren't good enough at golf to get that upset over a bad shot. This for sure. I wish for myself that I could keep this mentality through the whole round. For me, This is what I strive to do every round, but it's very hard some times. This is a really hard habit to break, I've done better the last couple years but sometimes I lose it, not as much as I used to, but it still happens on occasion. I don't use this as an excuse, but when I was growing up playing sports, I used to be around a lot of my uncle and brothers and cousins, and there was around a lot of anger in those days, tempers flared, and things were broken, this is what I saw whether I was playing, or just watching, it was what I considered to be normal, as an adult it has become really hard to not be like that, I've struggled with it for 30 years, so it's not an easy task, but breaking old habits never is. One day at a time, or in the case of golf, one shot at a time. evershady
Not that I'm happy about it, but I broke 4 clubs this year. It was the first time in a long time that I had done so. All were just shafts and easily replaced. But I should work on anger management on the course. Drive Did a Bo Jackson over the knee, Pw threw straight down hard ground wasn't expecting to break, 52 hit a tree a couple times, 56 still broke I'm not sure what I did, I don't remember. My excuse I didn't buy any of these clubs so cost of the shaft is I small investment. GolfJunkie302
I have never broken a club, but a friend had the epoxy fail on three of his irons in 9 holes. Also, in a tourney this summer, a guy I was playing with had his 4 iron break about a 1/4 of the way up the shaft. It was a good shot too, 230 in the middle of the fairway! downlowkey
In high school, I bought a set of Hogan Edges with graphite Aldila shafts the day before a district tourney. Warming up on POS range mats prior to my tourney tee time, heads on the 5-7 iron sheared off and flew down the range. Turns out the DIY guy I bought them from neglected to bevel out the hosels before installing the graphite shafts. Trying not to take divots while playing around the 4i to 8i gap definitely made for an interesting loop. Rtracymog
I've broken four clubs in my life and only one was my fault. When I played in high school and would hit a bad approach, the offending club was whacked against the leg of my golf bag. Eventually my PW had enough and, mid swing one day, the shaft broke about 4 inches down inside my grip. The second time I was hitting range balls on a cold day under the heaters and I caved in the face on my Cleveland Hibore hybrid. Third time I was at the range hitting balls and a kid who worked there asked if I wanted to hit the new Tour Edge driver. I saw that it was an R flex and I said that I probably shouldn't. He said I would be fine after watching me hit a few more balls so I agreed. First swing with it, the head went farther than the ball (center contact) and he had to stop everyone from hitting so he could grab it. Last time was at the end of this year. Hit a drive on the first tee that sounded funny, looked down and I think the picture says it all. Luckily, Wilson replaced it at no cost. revkev
I have thrown a club across a stream and gotten it stuck in a tree and a putter into quick sand? Does that count? Both were when I was in college and there may have been some alcohol involved. I've grown up and clubs are too expense plus too dangerous if ever they would break from being thrown. I have had a club break while swinging it a couple of times. That's a scary feeling.
