edingc
Already at the point in the season with a few nagging injuries: my left trap muscle has been all sort of sore and tight since early March (was working on overhead press and tweaked it), and recently my left hamstring and calf muscle seem to have suffered a minor pull doing some deadlifting. Nothing too serious with either injury. The more annoying and painful one at the moment is what I assume is a strained tendon in my right pointer finger. I hurt it a few weeks ago at the range and I've had some days where just gripping a club was very painful. Again, it's more a nagging injury than serious. J.B. 05
Three and a half weeks into rehab for knee replacement surgery, probably the most miserable 25 days of my life. The only time's that were close were the 5 rounds of golf that I tried to play on the bad knee earlier this spring just before I went under the knife. Slowly getting better, but this rehab is just brutal, you can't wait for the surgery site to heal up before rehab begins, gotta jump right in before the scar tissue builds up. Pain meds and ice can only do so much. I just pray that I won't have to go through this on my right knee. Syks7
Sidelined for a minimum of a month. Just took most of the tip of my left middle finger off with some sheet metal. Guessing that I'm looking at about a dozen or more stitches. Too bad. Felt like I had some momentum finally. I think I'll still be able to putt so that's what I'll be practicing. Edit:. 8 widely spaced stitches. Edit 2:. I think I'll be able to chip too so this may force me to focus solely on short game for a month. On the funny side I think my new middle finger up flip off grip style is going to turn some heads. Syks7
Update to last nights impromptu ER visit. It looks much better this morning with the swelling subsiding. This is going to be alright. I'll still be down for a bit and I won't be full swinging until I feel confident I'm not going to separate the 'flap' from the tip of the finger, but I can grip a club just fine and an easy 50% wedge swing feels okay so it's not all bad. Going to force me to keep soft hands. All that bring said, looking at the wound and the smaller cuts on other fingers I'm lucky I didn't take multiple fingers off. 1/4" towards the hand and it would not have been the glancing blow that it was and it could be very different. For future reference, most people know sheet metal is sharp. I knew it before yesterday, but I just didn't really understand how sharp. I knocked a piece of galvanized duct work off my tailgate and instinctively reached our out to catch it. It had fallen a grand total of six inches before it brushed my hand as I attempted to catch it and it nearly amputated some fingers. It was sharp enough that even though they called it a laceration the PA that stitched me up told me it was indiscernible from a deep cut from a Kitchen knife. Do when that piece of $20 ductwork falls, just let it go and bang out the dent later. Keeper905
I've been fighting this year with a torn rotator cuff that I did pre COVID while playing keeper in soccer. Thankfully it's an annoyance only and not affecting my activities too much. Doesn't seem to be a problem when golfing, thank goodness. I'm still playing keeper for my premier team, but I really should think about stopping that. At 43 playing keeper against a bunch of 18 - 20 year olds......my body is starting to tell me it isn't the happiest about that decision. Maybe time to slow down and put more focus on less jarring type of body activities (like golf!). I'm just hoping that it doesn't get worse, it's been a while and it's still an annoyance, but live able. Just don't want to have to go for surgery. Syks7
Update. Stitches out yesterday and this thing is healing like gangbusters. Totally not what I was expecting. Doctor says it looks really good and is healing very cleanly. When asked about when I can start swinging I was told I could probably do so today but it would be better to let it heal for another week. I asked how to protect it when I do start swinging and was told I should wrap it tightly and go slowly to make sure I wasn't putting too much pressure on it. So... naturally I hit a small bucket today. Finger wrapped super tight, then stuffed into a glove like a sausage. Not my smartest decision but everything held up. No issues and I was very very cautious. Turns out that the pressure from the grip and swing is more compressing on the wound than pulling which makes swinging tolerable. If the laceration had happened in the other direction I think it would be a very different story. Depending on how it continues to look I'm thinking about trying to play next week. Not too bad considering that I thought I was done for a while when I was sitting in the ER. Tom the Golf Nut
25 minutes ago, rbsiedsc said: It also could be hitting off mats and the divot board on my garage floor You are on to something there. I have a simulator and obviously hit off a mat. I can set the program to ball, foam ball, or no ball. The first winter i didn't have a real net up and was tired of chasing foam balls so I switched it to no ball. After two months of full swings my left elbow was killing me. Sharp pains at times or just a constant throbbing. I came to the conclusion that I needed impact to absorb some of the stress in a golf swing. Without a ball all the stress went into the elbow on the follow through. In essence hyper extending the elbow joint with the club weight wanting to pull my arm down range. I stopped playing all together for a month ( it was February anyway) and the problem went away. No more pain. So when I play on the simulator now I will always hit a ball. Either the hard foam balls or real balls. The problem hasn't come back for two years now. Makes sense. I won’t hit off a mat because of wrist pain a long time ago. sirchunksalot 1 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
