NEW Titleist AVX Premium Golf Ball

epsanche23

Recommended Posts

New AVX is really something else. Long off the tee, very soft and what you'd expect from a premium Titleist ball around the greens. Really interested to see where this ball will fall in line with the 1/1X. Possibly their new flagship??

Anyone had a chance to try it?

For now, its only available in Arizona, California and Florida as a test market.

Here's a look inside the ball at the 3-piece layer construction:

What are the main differences from the V1? Just the cover/dimples? I thought the V1 was also a 3-piece?

Based on the info from Titleist-

3-piece ball

New dimple design

New urethane cover

New core- which provides softer feel and produces longer distance.

Equal to 1/1X in green side control

Yes, as of now its in the bag. I'm seeing some really good results so far. Amazing feel off the face. Further testing will determine whether or not it lives up to its hype.

Titleist is basically putting the ball out in a test market and not saying much else.

They are going to monitor all user feedback through social platforms, forums etc.

My guess is that based on feedback, this may or may not take the place as their flagship product. Still early but based on feedback, its a killer ball.

Not sure who they are aiming this at, it's another tour ball with a $50 price point....aren't they afraid it will take some of their own market share?

Wouldn't surprise me if this ball takes off, and the ProV is discontinued, or goes down in price and takes the backseat, and the AVX becomes the flagship ball

Played this ball Tuesday.  It certainly looks like a distance ball, having very shallow dimples.  Kind of like looking at a Bridgestone e6.  I thought that it felt good and couldn't really see any difference in the carry from a ProV1 that I was also playing.  Felt good and sounded good off the putter as well.  Hard to tell how it will react on the greens since ours are still recovering from aeration and still have a bit of sand left on them.  For what it is worth, they were holding under the current conditions.

We had a Q&A with the ball folks at TT. It Will NOT replace the ProV. You can put that in stone.

It's aimed directly at the competitors that are offering and touting softer compression balls. Such as Chrome X and Bridgestone Tour B line.

Hmm... the Chromesoft is cheaper per dozen, and the Bridgestone balls go on sale pretty often it seems, 3 doz for the price of 2, wonder if that means they're going to be competitive on price as well?

Don't know how it could survive otherwise at the same price point as the ProV1

I guess they're not trying to get into that premium-on-a-budget market; rather, they're just offering another version of the Pro V

MGS ran a story about these about a month ago on the blog. If they were considering replacing the Pro VI or Ix I think you would have seen this play in play on tour.

I'm sure it's a perfectly fine ball but any titleist player knows that they will have a buy 3 get one free sale every year. That lowers the cost to close to the 37 dollar price point.

If you are disciplined in your buying practices and want to play those balls they are really not much more expensive than other OEM brands.

I did not think I was going to get the chance to play these since I live in Utah. However, I played at the CasaBlanca this weekend and they technically have a course in Arizona, so I picked a few up. Details to follow soon.

If it ends up playing like the B330S, count me in. I think that's where they're headed with this line.

The BXS didn't feel as good so I'm hoping there's another ball on the market that fits my tastes like the B330S did.
