How about a test on how much a golf psychologist will really improve your game. Start off with 3 months of regular play, then three months talking to a golf shrink and see if the game improves.

That may open a can of worms for certain people.

I'd like to see comprehensive data on the effect grip circumference has on lag, release and shot shape. I get the feeling, with good data, it's probably one of the easier and more cost effective methods to improve impact position and shot pattern. I also believe there is more to be learned than regular vs mid-size; ie regular grip with 5 wraps of tape under the bottom hand. In my opinion grip customization is also relatively free from potential market controversy since testers would presumably employ their typical gamer clubs across all testing.

Agreed. The last thing I wanna hear is that my driving accuracy is tied to my relationship with my mother-in-law.

Well there you go, driving accuracy is actually tied to your relationship with your FATHER IN LAW, your relationship to your mother in law is directly proportional to the number of 3 putts... 😂😂

Steel vs Graphite iron shafts ... which offers best control, best dispersion & distance ... tested by individuals with the same swing speed.

Does technology these days really help the average golfer?

How about a test that takes a left handed model of club vs. the right handed model of the same club, and see if the Lefties are actually made to the same high standards as the right handed models. Could be any club, but I think Driver and putter since those are the most “technology” driven clubs.

Lefties are always in their Right Mind

Whoa!!! Now there's something that never crossed my mind. As a LH I always assumed that RH & LH were always the same but who really knows?

Great idea

What I love about MGS tests is they typically answer one question; will this product improve your score?

Well, I think most people would agree, the best way to improve your score is not through technology but through skill so, how about a test of products designed to make you a better golfer? Training aid testing! Which products make you a better ball putter, which improve ball striking, etc. and which are not worth the price of postage.

I would like to see a review of online lesson services like Rotary Swing as well.

If certain products work and absolutely can make you a better player, I would like to know!

Putting analysers --

since the iPing cradle and app (iPhone-only - harrumph) came out there are any number of gadgets and devices to measure your putting stroke ... so what are the functional differences / head-to-head comparisons between "retail"-oriented things (could be wearable or go into the butt-end of the club; say $100 - $250 devices; and not a full fitting Sam PuttLabs nor Quintic nor Foresight) like Blast Golf or 3Bays Putter or ____ ?

Yes! Great idea.

There's finally enough of a market that that can be tested. Arccos, Shot Scope, Game Golf, Skycaddie, Golf Logix?

Could you imagine the poor testers using all of those concurrently? That would be a fun 6 hour round lol.

I love the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer testing idea.  If there is one thing I have learned after reading a couple years worth of "Most Wanted" tests, it is that I will never purchase another club without a proper fitting.  But if I go to three different fitters, am I going to get fit into three different options?  What are the chances that all three end up with the same club selection?

So take a testers' top five club heads and give us the pertinent stats of the off the rack version.  Then give the same stats after a super basic fitting with limited options.  Then repeat one more time with a GolfTec or Club Champion style fitting.

My guess is that a proper fitting is going to be the big winner.  There are a lot of folks who buy the latest and greatest every year.  I also see a lot of comments thinking that fitting is a waste of money.  Not sure if there is a big overlap in these groups.  Would we be better off dropping to a new purchase every three years and putting some of that $800 towards a real in depth fitting?  If the Big Bertha has only gained 0.8 yards per year, I bet the fitting on a new club every few years would end up with the best performance.

On a semi-related note, what are the purchasing demographics of readers on this site?  Has that been studied in any detail?  I agree that if 90% of clubs are bought off the rack, then customizing every club to every tester doesn't reflect most of reality.  But this site seems to be geared towards some real equipment nerds (maybe "enthusiasts" would be a better term).  Do 90% of us buy off the rack?

You hear all about driver and iron fittings. Hell even wedge fittings are getting to be more and more popular.

I'd like to see a test of fitted vs unfitted putters and if there is truly a large discrepancy in putting numbers. Or if anyone has there own experiences, I'd really love to hear about them. As a mediocre putter, would lessons benefit me more than the putter fitting?

With more lunch hour putting sessions my putting has gotten a little better over the past year but I haven't seen a truly significant improvement.

There are a lot of philosophies on how to putt. Some experts will tell you eyes over the ball is the right way and others will tell you it doesn't matter. What if the fitters philosophy doesn't agree with yours?

Lessons vs fitting would be dependent on why you are mediocre. Would is you issue with putting? What “numbers” are you trying to compare?

I would like to see the leading putters go against the old bullseye putter or a mini golf putter. Let's see the "best" vs the "worst" to really prove the concept.

Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Lol I play golf regularly with a fellow that uses a bullseye putter. He's an amazing putter, so good in fact at different times we've had others in our group buy one and use it for a few rounds.

I am probably going against the grain here (hehe) but I would like to see more tests for hybrids and fairway woods.

It used to be distance control but I feel I'm better at that category now. However I still don't tend to make many 5-8 footers or the ones when I give myself 15 feet or less for birdie.

As I'm thinking more and more it may even be something like green reading. I'll say more than a few times a round. I hit that putt right where I wanted to yet they just don't fall.

Likely something as simple as feeling confident over putts would probably make a difference as well. This game will make you overthink just about everything.

My guess is part of the problem is you think you should make more than you do. Several charts online but here is one that I found doin a quick search for pga make percentages.

https://www.scottsackett.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Putting-Probability.jpg

If you are hitting your putts online then the putter isn't the problem.

If you are missing long and short then distance control/ speed might be the issue. If you are getting your desired line and speed right then it is green reading.

If you are hitting your putts online then the putter isn't the problem.

If you are missing long and short then distance control/ speed might be the issue. If you are getting your desired line and speed right then it is green reading.

Good stuff there. Definitely have to research that a bit more. Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.
