Because ego. I'm guilty of it too. Wish I could get custom fit for an Evnroll :(. The grip is just too big and I'm scared to put a different one on and throw the whole putter off. Like retrofitting a different engine in a car, it just feels wrong to me (to use his car building analogy).

For some reason when he started talking about the way a putter "looks" vs performance the first thing that came to my mind is "I wonder what car he drives?"....

...and then at the end of the video he talks about cars.  HAHA!

But I don't think he was attacking the price point or collection of the boutique brands. He actually said by all means collect the stuff, just dont expect it to make your game better.

I would like some clarification on exactly what is a "no tech" putter.  In the video he only mentioned 3 putter brands.  What about new Odyssey putters, or the Cleveland Huntington Beach putters that tested well.

Basically a no tech putter  as discussed in the video is a putter that doesn't have a face that helps ensure the ball rolls consistent distances on miss hits or as is discussed with the evnroll that the ball will curve back toward the center on miss hits.   I don't believe any Odyssey insert accomplishes this;  to me the face is just a mushy feel that mutes the feel on off center hits.  Another manufacturer that would be considered is Bobby Grace and some if his inserts.

After having tested  all of those putters,  I believe in evnroll insert does help get a consistent roll on misshits.  The "tech" is based on how much material comes into contact with the ball and how much energy is transferred to the ball.  Less mass in the center provides less energy and as you move out there is more material to transfer more energy.

That said,  I believe that there will be benefit from faces that help on misshits provided there is feedback on where you misshit the ball so you can determine why the ball went a certain distance or direction.  I have a hard time with the assertion that the ball will curve back toward the center when misshit.  I also believe that tech on a poorly fit putter will not make up for the poor fit and that a properly fit putter will help you have a more consistent strike and potentially eliminate some of the need for the tech.

MLA tech is visual, per their site... The face has grooves, but a lot of putters now have some type of “groove”. To me the video is only talking about putters that are “off the rack”, even just the ones in MGS testing.

The weighting alone that Edel does with their putters- whether in the handle, head, or both, is more tech than any company I've seen yet. Add the visual theory of the curved/straight putter head and the lines/no lines, there is a TON of tech. But, Edel isn't an off the rack company.

I am biased, though!

I'm sure his stance will be the same as it is with any company -- if you have the data to back it up, that it can improve a golfers' game, he will stand behind it.

This is part of the my confusion.  The MLA has "alignment tech" but no face grooves to make miss hits go the same distance.  Ping and Evnroll have the face tech but the rest of the putter is like any other putter on the market.  In the most wanted 2017 the Odyssey #7 scored well but there is no special tech for alignment or miss hit forgiveness other than maybe more MOI.

Loved the rant and really appreciate what he had to say.  I would like some clarification on what "tech" he was referring to.  Actually donated a little bit of money because of his passion.

I think that is probably a fair statement.  There was an Edel putter in the testing and while Edel is primarily known for custom fitting you can buy them off the rack.  We were not custom fit for any of the putters which is why I would still recommend getting fit for the putter.

Sorry,  yes the MLA is visual;  I was just thinking Ping and EvnRoll.   During my testing,  I just couldn't see what the MLA putter was supposed to be doing.

Regarding performance across the board,  you would have to look at strokes gained over time and not a single round.  The bottom line is you need to find the putter that works for you.

I'm going to be in San Diego at some point in the next year. Not to far from Carlsbad if you know what I mean. I was originally thinking about an Edel, but the tech in the EVNROLL has me hooked.
