Bad shot of the day ... darn near missed my tee shot and dribbled it into the lateral hazard to the left about 50 yards (par 3).  Took a drop from 110 yards, hit a beautiful PW that landed and stuck pin high about 2 feet to the left.  Missed the damn putt!

Out for a quick nine holes this afternoon, and on the last hole found myself with a downwind tee shot onto a sun-baked fairway. Went with my 5-iron, and hit it as pure as I ever have.IMG_4841.JPG.9f77a9e5c7ef28ec870bc9fab46f134d.JPG

Don't think I'll ever manage to duplicate that feat.

Yesterday while playing during the rain on a rain soaked golf course, I was at the par-4, number two handicap hole on our golf course. I've been hitting off the toe dead right on my driver all day and this was no different. So much for par I said. I was left about half a club length on the grass with a stance on the cart path for my next shot, which I managed to draw just enough through the trees to leave it 105 out from the pin in the right rough. Fortunately the ball was sitting up nice and not down in the wet grass this time. I took a 50° and put it to within 3 ft to salvage par on the elevated green. That's like stealing one from the course...

Well obviously after the lowest round of my life today I have numerous options, from driver to putter, but the one shot that was the icing on the cake was the 6 iron bent around a row of eucalyptus trees, to 4 feet, that resulted in an eagle…

Today from my normal tees, the eucalyptus trees were right in the way, so my trusty epic max 5 wood blew over the top of them, but unfortunately a little left of the green, as I really didn’t have a target to aim at until after I hit…

Had a good day with the irons, lots of shots pin hunting....too bad I can't say the same for the putter.... At the par 3, 15th hole, the pin was at the back at 160 yards. It was windy and I had the wind at my back, probably 10 mph or so. Hit a nice easy shot to within 2 feet behind the hole. Made the only birdie putt that day after quite a few opportunities under ten feet. 🤬 At least I can say I was dialed with my wedge game.

Got a 305 on 13, followed by a 295 on 14.

both down hill, but I pegged em good. The Mavrik sub zero is longer than the rogue max D , but nowhere near as consistant.

... Nice, I am hoping to join you as a Big Hitter. Over seeding starts next week and if I can get on a course that shaves their fairway in preparation, 300yd drives or longer are possible for me. Basically they cut the grass right down to the ground and up to 75yds of roll can happen and downhill maybe even 100yds LOL. Of course the same roll takes me far into the desert if I ain't hitting the fairway.  🤪

The 8,9,pw each had a very nice shot today to the toughest pins where death awaits the weak shot. Towering height, and stuck tight, made two of them for the birds.

honorable mention to a huge drive on 4

Had one last day off before the start of the last quarter of the year rush at work.  My club was hosting the Annual Member/Guest, and I chose not to sign up this year.  So I went to one of our Sister Clubs in the area... Sweetwater CC - Cypress.  It was my first time playing there and had a great time with a couple other guys from my club.  Course was in great shape and the greens were rolling true :).

The best I can describe my round was "rollercoaster" and not just any rollercoaster... a rollercoaster that crests the peak of the highest drop, and becomes detached from the rail as it starts down... then somehow miraculously lands back on the tracks before impact and you enjoy the rest of the ride with anticipation and excitement - until that whole routine happens again!

In golf speak... that is... I shot 81 with 2 quads.

My shot of the day came on 18... long par 4 playing ~460 with a bit of a hurting wind.  Dogleg left with water running across the fairway in front of the green.

I hit a pretty good drive, just a little right of my target (which lengthened the hole), and not represented on the graphic below, but the hole was tucked left behind the trap and back - so my rangefinder had me at 225 pin.

Screenshot_20221001-094537_18Birdies.jpg

I hit the best 3 wood of the day, right at the pin, headed for the trap.  I saw my ball bounce... maybe just before the trap, maybe just over it... and then saw the ball trickling up the slope toward the hole.

Looking back down the fairway... left with a putt with about 18" of break left to right... NBTBOTC (nothing but the bottom of the cup).. Birdie to end the day.

Played a course i never played before.

par 4, little under 500 yards.

Driver off the tee, hit one of the poorest shots possible that you can hit and still remain in bounds. Like 5 feet off the ground, left.

Shot 2, had 408 left. Would take a miracle to hit a GIR for me with that distance left. Hit a 3 wood, not exactly the shot i envisioned but it made sufficient progress forward but left of where i would have liked.

shot 3 had a little over 200 left, hitting off marginal grass/dirt. 4 hybrid. Actually hit it on the green from there, miracle.

missed the birdie putt, but it was a long lag putt, wasnt expecting to make it.

made the par putt

I had a few chips/pitches that really helped me out on Friday, but this one was probably the best.

Hole #2 which was playing about 185-ish. Since this is a weird distance for me (i.e. I can't hit a 5 iron any more), I have been gripping down on a 4H and trying to be very smooth. I was playing a bit of a fade with the left edge of the green as my target, but I hit it towards the toe resulting in a draw. It hit the cart path and bounced into the bushes on the other side of the next tee box. Fortunately, the bushes were dense enough that the ball stayed out and I could put a swing on the ball. As usual for me, I had also short-sided myself and had almost no room to play with. I hit the perfect little 58* which landed in the fringe and died, leaving me about 5 feet for par.

Note to self: do something about that gap from 4H to 6I.

This hole is one of the tougher on the course.

forced layup and you run out of room around 250. Can get away with 3W but is risky to run out and that landing area is well below the hole so it plays a good 1-2 clubs longer from there anyway. Still would be hitting 7 maybe even 6 iron.

Went with the new 2 driving iron (didn’t have time to add a new sensor so took the hybrid out of my bag before the round and put that sensor on). Hit the exact yardage I wanted. Was on the upper part of the fairway that’s even with the green. Pin was back and hit the 4 iron pin high just off the green. Lagged a good one up close and drained the auto putt for a par that feels like bird.

Tough finishing hole for the front 9. Tree lined on the left that you can't go over, and bunker you've gotta carry, if you can hook it around the corner it can be 30-40 yards closer approach easily. I left my DI right and got just unto the rough. Flier lie and a little downwind and downhill to the green, which is guarded by two huge trees that "field goal post" the green. Best swing of the day with my 7 iron to just over 15 feet, and got the putt to drop for a bird!

Nothing special about this hole, but I'm thrilled to death to have a hole where every shot went just as I planned.  Real solid drive left me about 260ish away.  I've pulled 3 wood on this hole many times in the past and have cleared the waste area twice, landing the green once.  Hitting the green that one time is one of those shots that keeps me coming back.

That said, I'm getting better about playing "smart" golf.  I use quotes because even making the smarter play only works about half the time for me.  This was one of those times.  Then a wedge that rolled a little too far, followed by a putter just off the back of the green to inches from the cup for a tap in par.

Most of my really memorable holes required either an insane amount of luck or a spectacular recovery from a poor shot.  This one was just solid execution from start to finish.

... A conundrum most all of us face right? I play with longer hitters and almost always score better mostly because I don't get into the trouble they do. I play a lot with an 80 yr old that is long for his age, maybe 210-220 and he almost never gets into trouble hitting the exact same shot off the tee as I do and he comes up short of the desert. On the rare occasions I play with a really long hitter that also has a solid all around game it is very impressive and I naturally envy their distance. Speed Training really did a number on my swing but I may try again just going at it slower to start and building some speed, but even then another 5 mph would be ideal. That said in the end it is much more about accuracy than distance, although again having both is pretty magical. Us more mature (old 🤪) players are getting shorter not longer and the great thing about this game is moving up a tee box and honing a great short game can keep us competitive.

Played 18 with my dad and two brothers on Saturday, and on the back nine we played a four-ball team match. My brother Christian and I won the first 3 holes, but then things fell off the rails for us and we were all square with 2 holes left to play.

@Kieran hit his drive on 17 waaaay off to the right, but managed to hit it to about 20 feet from the far side of the other fairway, and got in for par. I was in a great position off the tee, hit the green, and was the last to putt. And when the pressure was on, I finally got a putt to drop!

Took a video of my swing on the tee box last week... worst thing I could have done... I had to check my phone 3 times to be sure I hadn't used the "slo mo" setting.... nope... that's just my swing :/.  Sad part is... I thought I really got into one on that swing!!!  haha.  Sometimes oblivion is golden.

I play with a guy 20 years my senior and he and I hit it about the same distance... I'm with you Chisag, I'm not looking for Rory length... I just want to be able to keep up with the 73 year old I play with!!

... 🤣  too funny. I feel the same looking at my swing. But I can still get it out there 250-280 depending on the day yet 270-300 would be oh so much better. One of the things concerning swing speed that really stuck with me was in his prime DLIII saying when he absolutely needed a long drive, he slowed down his swing just a little to make sure he hit it dead center. Missing the center by 1/4" can lose 5-7 yds and hitting it an inch on the toe can lose 20-28yds!  We have all played with someone else (cough) that hits a big drive and comments "I wish I could do that every time but I don't know what I did different?" Easy, they hit the center. I think most golfers would gain more distance off the tee concentrating on ideal contact than increasing their swing speed. Younger players of course can chase more swing speed as long as they hone the rest of their game too.

On the par-4, 410 yd, 8th hole in bretton woods I finally hit a decent drive but hit a marginal second shot to about 25 yds. It was sitting up nice in the fairway in front of the very tough undulated green. I knew I had an opportunity to put some spin on the ball. I chipped it clean, landing it on the fringe one bounce checking and slowly meandering into the hole for birdie. I'll take that on that hole any day.

Played yesterday, hole of the day was a short par 4, playing about 330.

Didn't hit the best shot off the tee with my 3 wood, but it was in the middle of the fairway, left me with 113 yards. Was trying to decide if i should hit a PW knowing that if i strike it well, its going way too far, or hit GW and be at about the right distance. Pulled GW, almost went in the hole. Made the 1 foot putt for birdie.
