The 17th hole at our public course is a LONG par 5 that is RARELY hit in 2, and I’ve only done it once in 20+ years. Yesterday I absolutely smashed a drive that got me JUST around the corner of the slight dogleg, leaving me 280 to the pin. Hitting the green in 2 is difficult because the oaks over hang a bit into the fairway so one has to move the ball 5-10 yards, depending on which side of the “corner” they’re on. Well, I took out the Cobra King Tec hybrid, turned-down to 16*, and absolutely SMASHED it as hard as I could. My playing partners were so excited because they’d NEVER seen someone hit the green in 2. Well, this hybrid is ridiculous. Pin high…. Just off the left side! Ugh! SO close. Played a little more draw than I expected! 53 years old and I had a 325 yard drive, with a 280 16*!!!! I’ll take that!!! Two shots in-a-row that were almost perfect!

Played 9 yesterday with Dad and my brother.  I really stunk up the joint but finished the final hole with a nice sequence.  It’s summer up here and starting to dry out…even better, the course is all granite so it just grabs water like a sponge…470 yard slight dog leg left and plays as a 5 on the card.

Driver 9 iron from 130 yards into a medium wind and out of a snug rough to 15’.

MEZZ.1 did it’s thing and made me a birdie 3 to finish out a trash round of 40 with 2 doubles and 2 bogeys.

Let’s say the putt was the shot of the day 🙂

My shot of the day came on #11, a long par 5 that until today has given me fits trying to make birdie.  Today, I hit a knock down 9 iron past the hole and had it spin back about 8 feet to stop 6 inches from the hole.  Tapped in the birdie putt....so close to an eagle on the hole, though.

... Obviously a big part of the game is scoring when your swing is absent from your normal tempo and feel. I have been going through that lately recovering from illness and shooting a trash 74 where I did not hit a single shot that I felt was with my normal swing. Yet playing with golfers shooting 90 or higher that think an excessive draw hit on the toe and runs an extra 40 yds leaving a wedge to the pin while they have hybrids is a "monster drive" while I am feeling like a complete hack. It would be too arrogant and rude to say "Naw I missed it pretty badly" so you just suck it up and keep it to yourself. I know some probably won't understand but when you play at a high level like you have and then struggle to make solid contact and the swing just feels off, even a little off, you would probably rather shoot a 76 with a good swing and hitting some poor shots solidly than you would shoot a 72 and the whole round is a grind and you never hit any shots like you know you are capable. Just because I hit a 7 iron thin, that lands short of the green and rolls top to 1 foot doesn't mean I received any gratification from that birdie.

... To be clear if it happens in the middle of a round when I am playing well I am ecstatic my miss turned out so well but if it is just more of the same the entire day and I just got lucky, there is no joy in Mudville. All that said, ending with a good birdie putt is about as nice a shade of lipstick as you can put on your pig. 🤪

It’s so true…and something I wish I’d focused on earlier in my playing days…on a bad day, your putter can save, salvage or transform a bad round.  This was the case yesterday.

Exactly opposite with me past few rounds. Great play outside of the green and I shot so much bigger with the really bad putting.

amazing what the flat stick does for a round

Was admittedly fighting my swing a lot yesterday, but golf has a way of giving you a reason to come back!

Two shots of the day were on the same par 5 - drive was piped 315 dead down the middle. Rolled out all of about 2 feet, so all carry I'm not upset with that!

Had 155 to a back pin, 160 was back of the green. My full 9 is 160, so I choked up to take a couple yards off. Pushed it right into the junk, and didn't see any stakes and wasn't sure if I'd find it.

Hit a provisional which ended up being one of the best full approach shots I've ever hit. It was tracking towards the hole the entire way, pitched about 3 yards past the hole and came back to a foot above the hole for one of my all time best up and down par saves!

Not gonna lie, I'm a little glad it didn't go in the cup haha. I would have had a "well I didn't technically hit an albatross but..." kind of a story, I'd rather just get one straight up some day and not need any qualifiers 😉

In a threesome last Wed, playing a par 4, all three of us were over the green on our approach shot, lying 2. All of us were about 10 yards off the green with about 10 yards of green to work with. First guy runs his chip by though close to hitting the pin. I’m next and lob/dribble my chip in for birdie - yay. Last guy hits his a little hard but it hits the pin square and drops in for birdie - double yay. All of us are 12-17 GHIN, so highly unusual.

One of the nice things about being a forum tester for the Shot Scope ProLX+ is that I can now post hole pictures illustrating my shots.   Gotta go with my second shot on this hole as my shot of the day.   Pushed my 3 wood off the tee and then hit a perfect 3 wood that ended up just off the back of the green.

... Not my shot of the day but I love to cry baby about how difficult par 3's are for scoring, especially compared to par 5's, so this is about Jordan Smiths shot on a par 3 everyday this week at the Scottish Open. He went 2-1-2-2 over 4 days and won a Genesis for his HIO. 7 strokes in 4 days going 5 under on one par 3. I have to think this is a record that will never be broken.

Had a couple today but on the 3 handicap hole which is one of the toughest 2nd shots around IMO.

Cant hit driver off the tee because being off a little is trouble and can potentially run out of room. I didn’t catch my 3W all that great and left myself 200 to a slightly elevated green that runs left away from the flag on the right side.

Pured a 5 iron and stuck it pin high for a 2 putt par. Think it’s only the 2nd time I have a par on this hole.

Played this weekend at a course that I have yet to play.  Shot of the day was hole 10.

Tee box is low in the valley so you have to hit up about 40 feet to the fairway.  It was into the wind, but still got a hold of it and put it middle left fairway.  3 wood over the bunker and onto the right of the green for a 48' Eagle putt that almost went in.  Would've been nice to drain that, but still very happy with the birdie on that hole.

Miserable scoring day  between high winds and punched greens I was 3 and 4 putting every hole😱. On the other hand I guess it's still better than having to go to work.

While I did have a couple of pars, the only bird was on a short par 3 over the water - hitting into strong Lake Erie winds (had to go up 3 clubs) and then a nice long birdie putt.

Had the round of my life last week; I broke 80 (78 on a Par 71)  for the first time ever.  It was one of those rounds where everything went my way.  30' downhill putt for birdie that would still be rolling if the ball hadn't hit the stick, bounced up, and back down into the hole.  Hooked my tee shot into the trees on a short Par 4, and after rattling around the branches for what seemed like forever, the ball flew towards the green and an easy up and down birdie from 20'.  I swear a squirrel had to have grabbed the ball and thrown it at the green.  There were other bounces, caroms and rolls that went my way every single time.  If the breaks had just gone 50/50 instead of 100% my way, I probably shot more like an 85.

But the shot of the day was a 50 yard pitch.  I've been working on my game from 50 yards in, and felt pretty good about my chances from the right rough.  I took my 52 degree wedge and hit it thin.  I mean I crushed it, like a screaming line drive to the power alley.  I was about to reach into my pocket for another ball, because there was no way that the shot was not going to fly the green and go OB.  But to my wide-eyed wonder, the ball hit the flag, wrapped itself around the stick a couple of times, and dropped straight down into the cup for the prettiest (and luckiest) eagle I'll ever see.  Thank you, Foster Park!

My truly great shots usually come when I get into 'well, screw it' mode.  My last one was while I was playing a particularly poor round a few weeks ago.  Stepped up to a par 4 halfway through the back 9, and over drew the ball into the rough, then toed my approach to the side of the green into a sort of grass bunker.  Now I'm about 3 feet below the level of the green, which is about 7-8 feet away from my ball, and short sided with the pin only a yard and half from the fringe.  I said screw it, and proceeded to hit a perfect flop shot.  Straight up in the air, dropped down and spun to 6 inches from the hole for a tap in par save.  My playing partner burst out laughing, because of course I would hit an amazing shot like that when my score is already trash.

3rd hole, par 3, 198 yds

pulled out my new (to me) Callaway epic max 5 wood with jailblades. Took a smooth swing and landed 3 yds left and 3 yds above the hole. Missed the birdie of course.

next hole par 5, hit the new 5 wood perfectly

next hole long par 4, second shot 188 up hill. Landed on the green, with 20 foot birdie putt that I missed.

anyways, the point was the new 5 wood is sweet

Stuck a 7 iron pin high, 15 feet right on a 185 yard par 3. It's a tricky hole that can give some issues, so walking away with an easy 2 putt par felt pretty good!
